Catharine LIDDICOAT Obituary

LIDDICOAT, Catharine Marie
Beloved sister, aunt, colleague and friend, passed away March 19 after a courageous stand against cancer. Throughout her life, and during the course of her illness, Cathy was surrounded by the love of family and friends. All will miss her dearly. After achieving her BA from Gonzaga University and her MA from CSU Sacramento, Cathy shared her talents with the State of California as a researcher and analyst for the DMV, the State Personnel Board, the CDF, and, most recently, the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. Cathy was born in Butte, MT, April 11, 1955 to Albert and Marie (Betty) Liddicoat. She is survived by her brothers Brian (Charmaine) and John (Janette) and sisters Joan (Dale Scholl) and Lynne (Don Baker) and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 26 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Mayflower Restaurant, 3022 L Street, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cathy's honor may be made to the Bonnie J. Addario Cancer Foundation http://www.lungcancerfoundation.org/ or the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Research http://cancer-grace.org/

She is still with me in memory and heart. Difficult to believe it's been 13 years since she passed. May God Grant her Grace.

I only just read Cathy's memorial notice in the Fall Gonzaga Magazine. I am so sorry to hear of her passing as I had only reconnected with her back in 2008. She was my roommate in Rebmann hall in 75-76. We had a blast watching the winter Olympics and meeting our various relatives when they came to visit. I regret not keeping in touch but know she kept her famous good humor throughout!

She worked hard and enjoyed Xena and her cohorts. Exercised, played, ran, and was involved with her family.

I miss her.

I knew Catharine through her participation at cancergrace.org, a cancer education site. As most people do, she came to the site looking for information to help with her own illness. But soon she volunteered as a moderator, answering questions from other users and directing them to existing resources. She wrote to me that she was "hoping I can contribute and learn as I go along. It's one way of giving back to a site that has been so valuable for me." Her contributions helped many people to navigate their own difficult journeys.

Although I never met her in person, I knew her to be a kind, compassionate woman whom I miss greatly. My deepest sympathies to her family.

I did not know Catbard personally, but through her stories, which thrilled and entertained me for hours. I will miss her as will the fandom of the Xenaverse . My heart felt condolence to the family and friends of this wonderful lady. May she “Battle On” till we meet again on the other side.

We knew Cath only virtually through the Tavern Wall, and were so very saddened to hear this news. Know that many people are thinking of Cath and your family at this time.

Cath and I met in person only once, but I've considered her to be my friend for over a decade. She was bright, talented, strong, gentle, kind and committed to making the world a better place. Truly an amazing woman. I am honored to have known her.

I'll miss you, Cath, but I won't ever forget you.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Cathy's passing. I met Cathy in 2001 when I joined the Audit Division of the Employment Development Department (EDD). Cathy was a valuable member of the management team responsible for supervising the Research and Customer Survey Unit. Working with Cathy was a pleasure, she was an oustanding professional, a strong leader and enthusiasic, it was a joy to work together. Outside of work, Jonel and I enjoyed Cathy's quick wit and great sense of humor. She was a very caring and considerate person and we will miss her.

Unfortunately,I did not have an opportunity to meet Cath, but I enjoyd very much her stories. I also really appreciated her kind, thoughtful and sensible comments at the Tavern Wall, and that's why I will always remember her.

The Tavern Wall brought us together (with our shared love of the Warrior Princess & Battlin' Bard!), but that we both shared a connection to Sacramento was a happy accident.

Cathy was especially there for me, when my mom was dying (which brought me home to Sacramento more often). The time around her death, just to get away for a Xena mini-marathon "at Cath's Place", was a real relief.

Besides our shared love of Xena, I treasured Cathy's political take (as expressed at the Tavern Wall, and in person). Yes, we usually agreed on things---but Cathy always had a more down-to-earth, rational approach. She was fiercely passionate about her causes, but never shrill or ego-driven.

When Cathy got sick, I was constantly BLOWN AWAY by her sanity, her awareness, and her driven optimism. She may have been brought low, but she was never a victim. She inspired without even trying---but she also did try to encourage and help out, in any way she could. She was kind and generous, but not ostentatious. She was ALWAYS easy to be around.

I think that in the dictionary, by the word "friend", there should be a picture of Cathy. I miss her tremendously.

Till we meet again dear friend, where no shadows fall...

I always and continued to enjoy Cath's enthusiasm for the beloved Xenite world. I imagined her often as Gabrielle because she seemed so like her in many ways. My condolences to her family. Rest in peace, dear Cath.
