The beautiful and talented Amy Smith Cox Jackson was released from the bands of infirmity on December 23, 2013. She was born February 15, 1922, daughter of George Thomas Cox and Amy Smith Cox of Pocatello, Idaho. She excelled as a student through university studies at BYU where she was elected Vice President of her senior class and graduate studies in music at Columbia University in New York City She married George Gee Jackson, in the Salt Lake Temple, September 4, 1943. For more than 70 years they shared a remarkable life journey with many national and international colleagues and friends in academic medicine. She was often described by them as the sweetest person they had ever met. During 45 years of career development and practice the family lived in Boston, Chicago, Hamburg, London, Munich and Ankara, Turkey. They returned to Utah in 1990 for 23 years of enjoyable retirement participating in university, church and community activities.
Amy was a wife and mother to be wished for. Rearing the children with love and example, she transferred beliefs and home-making skills, and she prepared them for life by inspiring study and development of their musical and other talents. Amy was an exceptional pianist and piano teacher. In the home full-time, she developed her own career as a professional seamstress, piano teacher and musician. In every location of residence, she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, always serving as a teacher, musician, or officer in the local Church organization.
She is survived by her husband, 5 children: Janet (Bruce) Hendricks, Sandra (Kent) Davis, Christopher (Rebecca) Jackson, Amy (Joe) Leach, and John (Celinda) Jackson, 2 brothers: Samuel Cox and Edwards Cox of Salt Lake City, 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The family will welcome visitors Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM and on Monday, December 30, 2013, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Ensign Peak Ward, 125 E. North Sandrun Road, Salt Lake City. Services will be held in the Chapel at 11: 00 AM. Graveside prayer and interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery.
