Sally Anderson Obituary

Sally Dian Anderson, born November 1932, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at her home in Arroyo Grande. She was born in Glendora, Calif., the second of seven children and the only daughter of Concha and Guadalupe Cardona. Sally met her future husband, Richard "Dick" Anderson, while attending Citrus High School in Azusa, Calif. They married in 1952. Sally and Dick relocated to Arroyo Grande in 1960 where they built their current house. Sally is survived by Dick, her husband of 61 years; and their seven children; Gloria (Andre) Huck, Dan (Sylvia) Anderson, Judy (Chuck) Nesbit, Patti (Ty) Conner, John (Chris) Anderson, Tom (Dolores), and Mary (Darin) King; as well as 26 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. All her children and extended family have special memories of Sally and they all share the knowledge that her family was the light of her life. Sally will be remembered for her unique sense of humor, dedication to family, and an amazing ability to cook delicious meals for crowds. She had many hobbies, one of which was quilting with her weekly quilting group. She found great happiness in making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Sally was an active parishioner at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Martha Ministries. She spent many hours volunteering on behalf of St. Patrick's Church and School, including but not limited to CCD and the craft group responsible for their annual Christmas bazaar. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Marshall-Spoo Funeral Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary follows at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic, followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or charity of your choice.

I do so remember Sally Anderson but had not seen her since around May 1971. It is with sadness that I write, as I did not know Sally that well, yet I knew both Richard Anderson and Sally Anderson as the parents of Gloria Anderson, a young student at Cuesta College that I had come to know well. Sally always treated me with kindness and was ver gracious towards me during the time I began to court her daughter, Gloria. I was unaware of Sally's passing this past October '13 but still wanted to offer my condolences to Richard and her children.

Since meeting her a few years ago at St. Pat's, Sally's sweet disposition was always in evidence, and always had a ready smile. She will be sorely missed! My sincere condolences to her family.
