Barbara de Gersdorff Obituary

Barbara M. de Gersdorff Barbara de Gersdorff, of Canaan, CT went home to the Lord on March 30, 2010. She was born in Seattle, WA on April 8,1916 to Walter D. and Stella J. McHardie. She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Meiklejohn) Maggioncalda of Grand Blanc, MI, her step-son, Stephen W. de Gersdorff of Springfield, MA, her sister, Betty McHardie of Seattle, WA, her grandchildren, Sarah M. Andrews of Decatur, IL, Nicholas J. Maggioncalda of Morton, IL, Molly M. Simmons of San Francisco, Rebecca S. Cooke of Charlestown, MA, Thomas H. Simmons of New York, Katherine U. Simmons of Sheffield, MA, two great grandchil dren who were the joy of her life and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Marie, husbands, Donald P. Meiklejohn and Robert L. de Gersdorff, step-daughter, Louisa G. de Gersdorff, step-son, Robert L. de Gersdorff, Jr. and daughter, Barbara (Meiklejohn) Simmons. Barbara was a member of First Church of Christ, Longmeadow, MA, Longmeadow Women's Club, Long meadow Maternal Association, Mas sachusetts Audubon Society at Laughing Brook, in Hampton, MA, and The Field Club of Longmeadow. She attended the University of Wash ington in Seattle and was a life mem ber of Iota Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity. A memorial service will be held on April 30, 2010 at 2:30 pm at Geer Vil lage 77 S. Canaan Road, Canaan, CT with a private burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to First Church of Christ, Mental Health of Springfield, MA, Laughing Brook Wildlife Sanc tuary and Geer Village.
