Even though Harvey was my step-father he filled the role of being the greatest dad for almost 30 years.Since my 20s he looked out daily for my mother, James and me. I went to him for advice and his wisdom guided me so many times. And I thank him for his influence helping my son James to grow to be a good man. As a man of honesty, integrity, and moral excellence he departed these qualities to my son by the way he lived. We all grew in just knowing Harvey. Some of my memories were all the Christmas' he spent at my house, how he cared for my mother, walking me down the isle on my wedding day and that he held my son Michael on his christening day. Althought Alzheimers slowly stole Harvey from us, over so many years, I was always struck with how kind and gentle he was. He was good to all the people who cared for him, especially in the end, the Arbor Rose staff, Rev. Karl and all the doctors who cared for Harvey and made his life better.
He even was giving mom so many kisses his last few days. He always loved my mom. Even thought he was not always sure who she was he broke into smiles when she walked into the room. He knew she was important to him. How great our lives were to know Harvey. He was loved always by his friends and family. RIP HRD

I am so grateful to have grown up having Harvey Dodd as my Grandfather. He was truly a Father to me as he invested his time into loving me and instilling real values that have lasted the test of time. He accomplished so much in his lifetime and was a true example of the "American dream" working his way up from the very bottom. His example in life will leave a lasting legacy for all of us. Most of all I miss his ear to ear smile and loving gentle heart. May we all rejoice knowing that he is with the Lord smiling on us from Heaven. He's probably sinking his first hole in one there right about now. *wink*

I always felt that I had won the marriage lottery when I married Ashley, because I got Harvey and Ruth for in-laws! Harvey was always such a gentleman, and I admired him so much. He was loving and kind, and had done so much in his life. And watching baseball with Harv was always a treat, because of his profound knowledge of the game. There aren't many men like Harvey, and now, sadly, there's one less. RIP HRD!
