Karen Jenkins Obituary

Karen Jean Jenkins

Proud San Franciscan and life-long Sunset resident Karen Jean Jenkins was taken from us unexpectedly on Feb. 22, 2018. Karen lived her life to the fullest and loved with all her heart. Walking along Ocean Beach, swimming in the Bay and the Russian River were her favorite past times. Her fun loving personality and quirky style made her a person you'd meet and never forget! After she was diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities 20 years ago, she found a new passion in childcare and was happiest surrounded by her "babies." She was also a Para-educator for the SF Public Schools. Karen is survived by her mother, Jo Gaedeke, siblings, Patti Halcomb (Claude), Tim Jenkins (Michelle), Terri McBeth (Mark), Mike Jenkins (Marilyn), and Jim Coughlan (Karen's Guardian Angel). She was predeceased by her father Howard Bud Jenkins. A celebration of Karen's life will be held Sat, March 3, 2018 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1pm. Reception to follow.

We are so saddened to hear about Karen's passing. Karen was very special to our family as she has been an excellent regular caregiver to our (now 2-year-old) son Alex since he was just a few months old. She became a special friend to my husband Taylor and me too -- always interested in our work and our lives, and always willing to help us out in a pinch or watch Alex so we could have "date nights." She was such a special person and we will miss her greatly.

My condolences to the family of Karen. I'm a member of the San Francisco Reef Divers and back in the 80s we used to have abalone feasts on the Sonoma Coast. Karen came to some or our abalone feasts and my wife Lupe and I remember her smile and the joy she brought to us sharing and enjoying the campfires and the good times on the coast. One wonderful time back then was when she joined several of us on a beautiful backpacking trip in the Sierras in the Peter Grubb Hut area. So glad our paths in life crossed back then. During the services and reception yesterday, I saw what a difference she made in other peoples lives. What a wonderful human being. Rest in peace Karen.

Karen and I catching up :)

Dear Karen,
I wanted to let you know that I really miss you! Not only were you my friend, you were the first friend I made here in San Francisco, 10 years ago, so that's makes you my older sister :) haha. I won't forget all of the laughs we had from the Girls weekend in Napa, to the funny moments with the kids you would watch, to figuring out the next great idea for a new video to make, to you grumble at me when I start lecturing you on making back ups of all your videos and photos :) By the way, as I kept telling you, you're not the wannabe moviemaker, you have always been the movie maker! Also we shared so many crazy moments from my bad roommate situation, to the Dr's at Kaiser taking multiple blood sticks that I pass out ( and yes I tell them to do it all in one stick!), to talking about your dad and being concerned when a family member was sick. You were there for me for my best and worse times in San Francisco and I can't be more happy to say that I'm glad you were there for me all those times.
Thank you Karen for always being you and being like a big sister to me! I will miss you, but you're always with me in my heart that I found in San Francisco.
Love always,
Your Apple Angel

We are deeply sorry to learn about Karen's passing and hold Karen's extended family in our hearts. Karen was a dear friend to us. She cared for our now almost 13-year-old twins for several years. Karen became a close personal friend to me and was part of our family. We have a rich collection of photos and videos of our twins thanks to Karen. She delighted in children and had such fun with them. Her energy with them seemed boundless to me. Karen could make the everyday special, exciting and adventurous. We are so very fortunate to have known her, and will miss her terribly.

Thanks for your love and friendship throughout the years, Karen. Your spirit and humor brought light and laughter to many foggy afternoons. I will miss chatting with you. Rest in peace, my friend. Heartfelt condolences to Karen's huge, wonderful family

Condolences to the family, RIP Karen. Karen and I made a point of going to the same Farmers Market every Sunday. I am on my way there this morning and it will not be the same. We would shop, always have a few laughs, and finish off the morning with a Latte. Good times. Miss you Karen
