Willard Arnold Obituary

Willard "Andy" ArnoldSAN FRANCISCO, CA,   Willard B. "Andy" Arnold IV (54) died of cancer on April 10, 2014 at home. He was born in Waterville, Maine on October 5, 1959. He is survived by his wife Jean, two children, Olivia Lane Arnold, and Willard B. "Will" Arnold V, is parents, Willard B. "Bill" and Joan Arnold of Waterville ME, two sisters, Elizabeth M. Arnold of Salem MA and her spouse Janis M. Cotter, and Margaret L. Arnold of Ithaca NY and partner Marisa J. Kelly, his father and mother-in-law Kwang and Kyong Kim of Brooklyn, NY, brother-in-law Qu Kim of Illinois and several cousins.
Andy was educated in the Waterville Public Schools, Deerfield Academy, and Denison University, class of 1982. Following his formal education, he embarked on a varied and extensive management and successful professional career, starting with Price Waterhouse.

In the mid-nineties he became the second employee of Scient, an e-commerce consulting firm, establishing the company's business operations in San Francisco. As Managing Director of that office, he oversaw growth of 20 million dollars of revenue in just eighteen months. Subsequently, Andy relocated to London and set up Scient's European operations with offices in London, Munich, and Paris.
Later as an executive team member at Havok (game development physics engine), he established a professional services consulting unit. The Company eventually was acquired by Intel. His last work before resigning due to health issues was Vice President of Kontagent, the leader in Mobile Customer Intelligence solutions.
Andy was co-owner and CEO of Spine and Sports Medicine in Concord Calif. He was also President and COO, Board Member and Advisor of 479 Degrees, an organic, premium snack food brand in San Francisco, which he co-founded with his wife Jean, who manages the Company as CEO.
Andy met Jean while living in London in 2000, and was married in 2003.  Of all his successes, Andy found most joy in his children, Olivia (5) and Will (3).  He loved the family life he and Jean shared with them in San Francisco, surrounded by good friends.  They traveled the world extensively and returned to Central Maine frequently.
At his request there will be no visiting hours or funeral. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Andy will be interred at the Neptune Society in San Francisco.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Andy and I worked together at Scient and I was thrilled to learn when I started that the #2 guy also went to Denison. Andy was always willing to help with our recruiting efforts although I realize more and more he definitely had other things to do!
I am thinking of and praying for your family and children. God bless you all.

I worked with Andy for several years at the Physical Therapy clinic he owned in the East Bay. His strength and background was in business and start-ups, and yet here he was running a healthcare clinic. I always admired the way he expressed his intelligence - measured, insightful and direct, yet reflective and sensitive. I wished more people involved in healthcare and business, and life, had those traits. A really great guy. Sending thoughts of peace and courage to his family.

It seems like yesterday that Andy interviewed me for my position at SSMI (2010). Although I saw him in person only a few times over the years, I enjoyed our working relationship via telephone and email. Andy's business savvy astounded me! I believe I have learned a lot from him. Bless his entire family and grant them with peace knowing Andy is safe in the arms of God.
