Ruth Baldwin Obituary

Ruth Lillian Gist Baldwin

June 5, 1935 - December 25, 2018

Passed peacefully into heaven on Christmas morning, December 25, 2018 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of John C. Baldwin for 59 years; devoted mother of Cynthia Baldwin Strauch and Anne Baldwin Robertson; loving grandmother of Peter and Erika Strauch and Jack and Conner Robertson. Was born in Oakland, CA on June 5, 1935. She lived in Arcada, CA until 1950 when her family moved to Piedmont, CA. She graduated from Piedmont High and UC Berkeley and received a M.A. in special education from SF State in 1973. She taught elementary school in the Belmont, Oakland and Moraga School Districts for 25 years. After retirement, she devoted herself to her family, her grandchildren and her art. She was a talented painter, photographer, and singer.
Ruth was a fifth generation Californian. She was a loyal lifelong friend to many, beloved elementary school teacher, lover of children, wildlife, nature, and poetry. She had an infectious laugh that could light up a room and she was beautiful inside and out. She is survived by her husband and daughters.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.

I enjoyed working with Ruth for so many years in Moraga. She was a a wonderful teacher but also a woman with a terrific sense of humor and a gift for seeing the joy in things. I loved her playful attitude, and I will miss her.

To the Baldwin family, you have my sincere condolences. When someone falls asleep in death (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10) the memories we have of them become our most precious treasure. May those memories comfort you as well as Gods promise at John 6:40.

Loving her back yard

Your mother was a blessing to work with. She had the greatest sense of humor and kept me on my toes. She was also the kindest , most giving person I've met. She lit up any room she was in and knew the name of everyone she met. Always asking the persons name and thanking them for their service. She's going to be missed and my prayers and thoughts go out to the whole extended family. I counted her as one of my good friends and am so glad I had the privilege of having her in my life. Love , Sharon
