Barbara CLARK Obituary

CLARK, Barbara Jean (DeMers) (Age 85) Passed away at her home in Spokane with family on February 16, 2015. Barbara was born to Harvey and Eva DeMers on December 9, 1929. She graduated from John Rogers High School in 1948. She married her lifelong love Howard Clark who preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage. From that union came three sons Roy, Rod (Kathy), and Ron (Cheryl); five grandchildren: Stephanie, Sean, Katrina, Jessi, and Courteney; and six great grandchildren: Alexis, Akira, Bo, Aurora, Chase and Star who survive her. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy DeMers. Her brother Robert preceded her in death. Special thanks to Norma Martinez who was her loving caregiver for several years. Barbara took several art classes including drawing, painting in oils and water colors. She became a renowned artist and sold many of her pieces at art shows and festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest. She became friends to so many and will be missed. She enjoyed traveling. She was a member of the Lilac City Goldwing Association and would ride with her husband on their Honda Goldwing throughout the United States. She loved working with her hands doing various arts and crafts. She was active in the Inland Empire Gardeners Association for many years. Her garden was beautiful and even received the Garden of the Month award by the membership. A time of visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 10 am to 5 pm. Join us in celebration of Barbara's life at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 1 pm. The family would like to acknowledge Horizon Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

I bought this in Leavenworth, (it is dated 1985) and today I thought I would search to find out more about the artist, and if possible let her know the joy I always have when I look upon it.
I found this obituary and wanted to leave a note.
I have always taken comfort when my loved ones are remembered, so I write this with a prayer for her soul, and ask God for continued
blessings to her family.

Barbara (and Howard) were first our neighbors but then quickly became our friends. She was so helpful with gardening tips and nurseries to go to as well as sharing her metal works, paintings-in her gallery and entire entry and kitchen--walls & tiles. She shared that she had worked with dichroic glass, metal and needleworks-bead and ribbon in addition to her painting. She amazed me from day one with her talent, kindness, and never-ending celebration of life. Even after we moved, we'd come back by to see and chat with Barbara. Always a ray of sunshine, always welcoming. Her art is amazingly avant garde and will keep her alive in perpetuity. I'm so saddened to learn of her passing; my first friend in Spokane.

Barbara was among the first group of artists who came together to start River Ridge Association of Fine Arts. She has not been a member for many years, but many of the group have crossed her path often over the years. I personally enjoy driving by her home to see the marvelous items she has on display. She was a wonderful creative artist. The art community has lost a valued member. May she paint the sky with beautiful colors as she moves above us.

Barbara was such a delight. She displayed at our Art and Craft Shows for many years and became friends. Always loved her stories about their motorcycle trips. I have numerous pieces of her art work in our home and think of her often. She sent a beautiful card to Jim and I for our recent 50th Anniversary. She will remain in our hearts forever. God Bless
