James Vredenburgh Obituary

Vredenburgh, James E., Jr. 60 years young on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Beloved husband of Caren A. Vredenburgh (nee Barth); dear father of Michael James (fiancé of Rebecca Rubin-Schlansky) and Stephen (Whitney, nee Sparks) Vredenburgh; dear grandfather of Ainsley June Vredenburgh; dearest son of Carmela and the late James E. Vredenburgh, Sr,; brother of Jean Silbereisen; brother-in-law of Roy Silbereisen and David (Margie) Barth; uncle of Thomas and Andrew; son-in-law of Herbert Barth and the late Jean Barth; loving cousin, nephew and friend to many Jim served as a member of the Theta Xi Headquarters staff for over 38 years, beginning in 1973 and was named the Fraternity's Executive Director and Foundation Secretary in 1978. In 1980, in his role as Secretary of Theta Xi Foundation, he oversaw the transition of the organization from a private foundation to a public charity. At the 141st Anniversary Convention in 2005, Jim was inducted into the Order of the Unicorn, the highest recognition Theta Xi can bestow on its members, for his many years of service to the Fraternity. Besides his dedication to Theta Xi, Jim was a leader in the many organizations throughout the fraternal world. He truly impacted the larger Greek community, well beyond the bonds of Theta Xi. He was a member and past president of the Fraternity Executive's Association and Secretary of FRMT. He was also awarded the NIC Gold Award and Virginia Tech's Henry S. Mattox Fraternity Alumni of the year award. Jim was a Virginia Tech Alumnus and an avid Hokie Fan. A Sr. Warden, Vestry Member and Lay Reader at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Ladue School Board Member, Den Leader, Soccer and Baseball Coach. He loved golf, reading, cooking, entertaining and most of all he cherished his family. Services: Memorial Service on Saturday, March 17th, 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 110 N. Warson Rd., Ladue, MO. Memorial donations may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center, 660 S. Euclid Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110 or to Theta Xi Fraternity, 745 Craig Rd., Suite 222; Creve Coeur, MO 63141. I just learned of Jim's passing.I am deeply saddened. I had occasions to deal with him when I was the Gamma Delta chapter president many years ago. He was one of the most honest and giving people I have had the privilege to meet.My prayers are with his family.
