Charlie,
Well, today I return to full duty....it's been a long and difficult time for me since I got sick back in March, but thanks to you and many other people, I made it through.
I will never forget your concern for me when I first fell ill. You were the first person to come to the house to see if I was going to be okay. You encouraged me to re-consider my decision to quit my job. You told me that I would recover... and I did.
A short two months after I became ill, you were gone. Your family gave me the honor of carrying you into the church, and then carry you to your Military Honors / Final Salute.
Your family and your hospice caretaker told me that I was on your mind in your final minutes here on this earth. I was comforted by this as I'm sure was your intent.
Until we meet again my old friend, I will think of you often with the most excellent memories.
I look forward to hearing you call me at the Gate, as you used to call me from the front gate here at the house.

We are so sorry we couldn't be there with you all. " Mr. T." was like a grandfather to us. I could always count on him to give us our fresh eggs or a new little chick to watch after. He would even give us the feathers off the peacocks so we could take them to school. Every year Mrs T. would include us in baking her famous Christmas cookies, and Amy and I would decorate them with all the colorful frostings, as Mr. T. watched over and ate them while we finshed frosting them. We will never forget what terrific people they were. I remember when Mr. T. helped get 500 helium balloons to high school for me at 6:30 in the morning. He was ready to go with his cereal bowl in hand. We will miss him so much, but both Mr. and Mrs. T. will always be in our heart forever!

To the entire Tona Family,
Words cannot express the sadness we feel for the loss of such a wonderful person as "Mr. Tona." We were very lucky to live next door for so many years. Your parents were very special and we had a very special fondness for them. We have so many wonderful memories from midnight chasing of our escaped horses or his escaped cows, snakes in the road,Lori him yelling at someone for driving to fast on our road or just being there when my famiy needed something. He had such a special closeness with his dogs over the years from Marley to Rex and of course Bruno and all the others. We are so sorry we cannot be with all of you at the viewing and service as we are out of town. Please know we are there with you. All our love, Lori, Mitch, Heather and Jeremy Green

Charlie and I were friends for a very long time. I first met Charlie when I was a young boy. My family had moved to Sunshine Ranches in 1967 and the Tona family arrived in Sunshine Ranches a few years later.
Charlie was as unique a person as I have ever met and I dare say, I will never meet another person quite like him ever again. You always knew where you stood with Charlie, there was never a gray area. If you were a friend of Charlie Tona, consider yourself a very lucky person. I know I consider myself very lucky and privileged to have known him over all of these years.
Charlie Tona had a great love for his family, an unwavering love of his country and an indisputable respect for the American Flag. I know all this because we spoke of it often over the past 33 years.
Charlie Tona taught me alot over the years, not as a lecturer, but as a valued friend. Charlie had a way of teaching you something without making you feel small or of lesser value. He was as tough a man as I ever knew, but he was quick to pay you a compliment when he thought you did something good.
Charlie and I shared a love of animals that I have never experienced with another person. It was a mutual interest from which I learned alot from him, and will carry forward for the rest of my days.
Charlie made it very clear that he considered me not only a friend but a part of his family. There is no higher honor for me.
I will miss your earthly presence Charlie but I know you'll never be very far away.
So I now steal a line from a very patriotic movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and say to you for having me as your friend,
My Mother Thanks You, My Father Thanks You, My sister Thanks You and I assure you, I thank You.
You will be in my heart and mind forever.
With all due respect and love,
