Kyle Orth Obituary

Kyle Orth

Tallahassee - William Kyle Orth passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tallahassee, Florida, on October 15, 2018 from heart failure. He was 55 years of age and born in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kyle graduated from Godby High School in Tallahassee, earned a Business Degree from Troy State University, and later received a Master's Degree in Environmental Safety. Many would say Kyle led an interesting life - one with intentional purpose and worthy of a novel on selfless service. Shortly after graduating from Troy State, Kyle was hired by FSU and involved in the startup of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL). During his 14 years with the Lab, he advanced from preparing grant applications to Head of the Environmental and Safety Section. During that time, he developed a passion to aid others in need around the world and immediately began that journey. Kyle volunteered for assignments with the Peace Corps and other similar organizations during his late 30's, serving primarily in South Africa until his death. Throughout these humanitarian assignments, he worked as Safety Director for the City of Tallahassee, then returning back to the NHMFL for a few years. Embracing his true calling of service, he moved to Washington, D.C. to work for an organization at USAID that promotes democracy around the world and fights to end violent extremism. Not until recently did Kyle move back to Tallahassee due to health issues, working as the Chemical Safety Officer in the FAMU Department of Environmental Health and Safety. The happiest of times for Kyle were those focused on helping others in need. He was incredibly passionate to share his calling and hopeful to inspire others. His love of Christ was the core of his life, willing to share the gospel at any opportunity, whether in words or actions. Many were the recipients of personal notes with scripture and encouragement. Kyle never married or had children, but adored his two nephews, George and Josh, along with his niece, Hayden.

Kyle is survived by his father, Robert Orth; his sister, Deborah Orth Shearer and husband Tyler Shearer; niece, Hayden Shearer; nephew, Josh Bridges; aunt, Madeline Moore; and numerous cousins and friends. Kyle was preceded in death by his mother, Amelia Orth, and nephew, George Bridges. Kyle would love to know his legacy inspired others to follow his lead . . . Live your life doing what is morally and spiritually right, be kind, help others, and always be humble. A quote from one of his friends, "Kyle was one of the things right about this world." We need more people like Kyle in this world. If there is a Hall of Fame in Heaven - he would be on it. A celebration of Kyle's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20th at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082, with burial to follow in the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make a donation in memory of Kyle to the St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or stjude.org.

Kyle, after all these years, I still miss and think of you often. You are all the kind things people say and much more! You will always live in my heart. I wish I could ride on your shoulders and hear that mischievious chuckle one more time (and then one more after that)! Love Always & Forever...

My most sincere condolences to Debbie, your family, and everyone who ever came to know Kyle. Thank you Debbie for helping me get in touch with him a few years back, my last conversation with him meant a lot me. Every memory of growing up with Kyle was filled with happiness. It would be impossible for me to recount all the events that made Kyle such an important figure in my life.

The world doesn't seem as bright today, you are missed, and I pray one day I'll see you again and hear your infectious laugh.

My condolences. I worked with Kyle during his time at USAID. He quickly became one of my favorite people to talk to and work with. I would always seek him out for a chat when I was on his office floor. He was such a wonderful human being. I'm glad he's in a better place now.

Attended and graduated Godby High School with Kyle. Kyle was friendly and humble. I remember him laughing in gym class, he loved life and liked basketball. He was quiet yet was always upbeat and positive when he spoke. Kyle was a great classmate. I never heard a negative word about him. Wished I could have spent some time around Kyle before he passed. We will miss you temporarily but we will see you again brother in Christ!

I wish I had known Kyle had spent time here in the DC area where I live and I had known about the amazing work he was doing and had done in his life. Like many others, I met Kyle at Astoria Park Elementary School and graduated from Godby High School with him. From the first day of 4th grade on, Kyle was a warm and generous presence in school. I still have ties to Tallahassee as well and will think about him on my next visit.

I went to school with Kyle and even though I didn't know him very well, he was a good and fair man even at such an early age. He was the all American boy who was so popular and smart and had the friendship of so many. I'm so sorry for the Orth Family's loss and feel very blessed to have known him for the short time I did. My the memory of Kyle forever bless all of us who knew him.

My family and I knew Kyle when he was on the Godby Cougars basketball team with Coach Keene. He was indeed one of the nicest, kindest, most exuberant young men I have ever known. I especially recall his taking time to show my son Jason much attention. Apparently, he grew in manhood embracing those same qualities and showing love to all he met. Rest in Peace, Kyle. Go, Cougars!

He was such a nice guy, his first day at work at FAMU he bought donuts in the office and came around to each office to share those donuts. From that day on I called him the donut man. HIs calm demeanor was his hallmark and his willingness to go the extra mile to help all he worked with over the years. We were surprised and sad to hear of Kyle's sudden passing. We have known Kyle for many years but did not get to see him nearly enough. Kyle was the kindest soul, always having a smile on his face and led by example loving everyone he came in contact with. If we all followed his actions, the world would be a much better place. We were honored to have known him and we are so sorry his life on this earth was cut short which is our loss. Prayers to his family and many other friends.
