Ronald Brooks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 21, 2026.
Ronald Keith Brooks was born on November 3, 1937, to Raymond and Katie Myra (Peneton) Brooks in Lafayette, Indiana. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army, where he proudly served for 20 years. He served 1 year in Vietnam, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.

While stationed in Germany, Ronald sang for the Army Men's Choir and met his beautiful wife, Elisabeth. He loved to sing and had an incredible voice. He enjoyed serenading Elisabeth, and they both enjoyed dancing together. They were married in 1958 in her lovely town of Hammelburg. Together they had five children, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

One of their favorite military bases aside from Germany was in Panama, Central America. After retiring from the Army, Ronald earned a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University. He then worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections for another 23 years before finally retiring.

Once retired, Ronald and his wife moved to Fayetteville, Georgia. Together, they enjoyed traveling, especially to the Caribbean Islands, and dancing. His happy place was being in a casino.

Ronald and his wife worked for 9 years in the Columbus, Georgia Soup Kitchen through Holy Family Catholic Church. They also delivered Meals-on-Wheels to the elderly after they moved to Fayetteville. They were members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Katie Myra Brooks; brothers, Raymond, James, Charles, Forest, Wayne, and Earl; sister, Wilma Martin; and sons, Peter and Bruce Brooks.

Ronald leaves behind his wife, Elisabeth; sons, Ron Brooks, Tom (Sheila) Brooks; daughter, Arleen (Real) Hebert; daughter-in-law, Janice Brooks; brother, Jerry Brooks; grandchildren, Dennis Brooks, Michael (Amanda) Brooks, Alina (Brad) Lauderdale, Cyrus Akbari, Holli (Keyton) Fairchild, and Ryan Brooks; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Bruce, Olive, Hazel, Bear Brooks, Daniel Brooks, Zoya, Aiden and Owen Lauderdale.

Burial services at the Fort Benning Cemetery in Fort Benning, GA are planned for a later date.
