Evelyn Faye Barry Davis met her Savior, Jesus Christ, in God's heaven on February 26, 2026, surrounded by her family and devoted caregivers. Born in the small farming community of
Sycamore, Georgia, on July 11, 1930, the oldest child of Edmond and Ruby Barry. Faye left small-town life after high school and attended Georgia State University in Georgia's capital city. Faye worked her way through school by serving as a live-in nanny for a prominent Atlanta family and later worked as a secretary at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Faye met a young Air Force officer, Alex Davis, who became her husband after his service in the Korean War. Faye and Alex had only a three-week face-to-face courtship when Alex returned from his military service; however, the couple corresponded daily through letters, which were all saved by each.
After their marriage on December 6, 1953, the couple lived in Albany, Georgia, then briefly in San Antonio, Texas, where Alex was stationed in the Air Force, before moving to East Point, Georgia, when Alex was hired by Eastern Airlines. The couple bought a farm in Newnan in 1960 and, after years of construction, moved to Newnan, Route 4 Box 86, now Emmett Young Road, became a place where family, friends, neighbors, and total strangers were received with southern charm, great cooking, and Christian love.
Faye was known to many as Mrs. Davis because that is how Alex referred to her. For 70 years, this couple exemplified marriage and a Christian life. Faye was never shy about meeting people, and her eclectic friend groups reflect how she valued people for who they were - children of the living God. She was raised on her family's farm in the small community of
Sycamore, Georgia. Faye and her younger sister Ann were outgoing young ladies who excelled in school and were involved in many community activities. Faye became involved with many activities at her beloved Newnan First Methodist Church. Faye was a member of the Eastern Airlines Pilots' Wives Club. Faye will be remembered as a servant of the Lord who put her faith into action. Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".
Faye never forgot her roots growing up on the farm in Sycamore. She understood hard work, commitment to family, and Faith. She was called to serve, and her service impacted many in her community. She served on and chaired many committees at First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Newnan Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered as a Pink Lady for years. Faye was involved with the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She participated in Meals on Wheels and other community activities. Faye and Alex were instrumental in bringing Wesley Woods to Newnan where Faye was a dedicated board member for years.
Faye was a good friend. She delighted in taking friends to doctors' appointments, bringing meals, and helping with recovery from surgeries and illness. She enjoyed fellowship with friends and was an accomplished bridge player with nearly seventy years of experience. She enjoyed Bible Study, reading, and meaningful conversation, including her Reading Circle luncheons.
Alex and Faye loved traveling, especially with friends, where they were members of the Methodist Campers. They also enjoyed flying in their plane around the country and living a busy life. But the most satisfying thing for them was enjoying grandchildren and great-grandchildren on their farm. They loved to share their farm and hosted their Church's annual Easter Egg Hunt for over forty years.
Faye will be remembered as a strong, loving Southern lady rooted in values from her family. She was a great American whose greatest asset was her unwavering Faith. She lived a life that exemplified Christ's love and service.
The celebration of Faye's life is Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Newnan First United Methodist Church, 33 Greenville Street, in Newnan, with Reverend Dr. Jim Ellison, niece, the Reverend Susanne Daughtry Fatigati, and the Reverend Andrew Chappell officiating, followed by a reception in the Annex Hall.
Faye is survived by her son, Barry Alexander Davis Sr.(Allison); daughter, Donna Davis Dougherty(Matt); son, John Paul Davis(Angela); grandchildren, Carly Davis Winstead(Josh), Ashley Davis Boland(Jay), Matthew Paul Dougherty(Rachel), Barry Alexander Davis Jr.(Katelyn), Cameron Ann Berry(Frank), William Chandler Davis, Katherine Davis Blasio(Andrew), Caroline Davis Shutley(Michael), Laura Ashburn "Lollie" Davis; great grandchildren, Annie Glenn, Davis, Mary Margaret "Mae", John Allen, Reeves, Jackson, Caroline, Isobel, Barry III, Daniel, Frank Jr., Bobby, and James.
