Douglas Walker Obituary

Douglas L. Walker
Douglas L. Walker, 74, of South Road, Cameron Mills, NY died on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.
He was born to Dorothy Myres Walker and James A. Walker in Corning, NY on April 18, 1946. He was a 1964 graduate of Jasper Central School. He enlisted in the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War era.
Doug worked the majority of his life at Dresser Rand Co. in Painted Post as a journeyman. He held various union positions while there. His last job was traveling across the country repairing industrial gas compressors including several trips to Alaska.
He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Palermo, sister, Kathleen Walker, brother, Terry (Gloria) Walker, sister, Cindy Lou Doyle and sister, Katrina Walker (Tom Loredo), step son Mark )Terry) Baker and their children, Michael and Kaitlyn, nieces and nephews, Chris and Jan Taft and family, Shaun and Wendy Taft and family, Michael Palermo (Christine Moffett) and family, Andrew Palermo, Meghan and Jason Lewis and family, Kristen and Karim Abu-Zaid, Jason and Megan Walker and family, Dustin and Susan Walker and family, Jennifer Walker (Brian Mack) and Michael Doyle. He is also survived by the love of his life, Gaye Sagardi, her son John (Deb) Loehnert and their sons, Dylan and Jackson, Gaye's sister, Dee Legge and her daughters, Sara and Stacy and sister Kyle Dempsey (Jim Coleman) and her daughter, Brittany.
Doug was preceded in death by his beloved son Jamie Walker on July 1, 1982, his parents, Jim and Dorothy Walker, his sister, Sally Walker, brother in law, Mike Doyle, niece, Molly Jo Taft and great nephew, Terek Abu-Zaid.
Before and after his retirement, Doug spent his time helping Gaye run her farm and tending to the animals. He also was often found running the cash register at W & W Grocery. The customers and friends are going to miss his quick wit and endless humor. He never was at a loss for words and was always ready with an arsenal of come backs. He was the one people called to repair things and lift heavy items. He was dependable, reliable and fiercely loyal to his friends and family. He was a man of principle that never wavered. He was a big man with a bigger heart, which he couldn't hide even if he tried. He was known to his family as the friendly curmudgeon
His donkey and his dog Johnny gave him great joy.
There is a hole in our hearts that can never be filled again. He will forever be overlooking Gaye's farm from the top of the hill. His words of warning can still be heard echoing from W & W, "Do not come in here without a mask".
As per Doug's wishes, there will be no services.
Memorial donations are requested for the Pound Hound ResQ, 415 W. 24th St., New York, NY 10011.
