Morrell Gathright Obituary
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Alice Purnell Gathright.
He was pre-deceased by his younger brother, P.D. Gathright, Jr.
He is survived by PD Jr.'s wife, Betty. Morrell has a daughter, Lori Gathright Kurz (Jim) of Pine Bluff; and a son, John Robert Gathright (Janet) of Conway. He has four grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, including one set of triplets and two sets of twins.
He owned and operated Gathright Van & Storage Co., the family business which was founded in 1927 by his father, PD Gathright, Sr. An elected public servant for 34 years, he began in the House of Representatives, and continued as a state senator. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with an MBA and later graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School in Little Rock, second in his class in 1974, at which time he began a private law practice. He has been a member of First Baptist Church for most of his adult years. He was a very loving husband and father who served his community well. He was a veteran of WWII, an Army lieutenant.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with a 10 a.m. graveside service on Friday at Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Gathright. Since Lori was my best friend in high school and my college roommate my freshman year, I spent many a night at the Gathright home. I remember being treated as a daughter by both of Lori's parents. Such a fine man. He will be missed by so many.
