William Seibert Obituary

Sun City West, Ariz. - William "Bill" Bruce Seibert, 91, passed away April 22, 2020, in Sun City West, Ariz. from complications related to Parkinson's disease. Born May 11, 1928, to William and Elsie Seibert, he grew up in Forest Hills, graduating from Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He was the first scoutmaster of Troop 75 in Groton.

Upon graduation from the New York Maritime Academy on Fort Schuyler, William was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. In 1955, he began his career as a nuclear engineer at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton. William held various leadership and management positions there, while specializing in heat shielding. In 1990, he retired to spend winters in Arizona and summers in Connecticut. His major activity in retirement was oil painting and traveling the world with his wife, Nancy.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, the former Nancy Perkins Theriault. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Christine Seibert and Corrine Landau; son William Albert Seibert; stepsons, Charles and Alan Theriault; stepsister Rita Harper; stepbrother Christopher Hessel; and nephew William Acker. William's issue includes 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

To those who knew him, he was Bill Seibert, a man who reminded us every day of how service, respect and the love of your fellow man was worthy of us all. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gales Ferry and the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, Ariz., when it is safe to do so.

Bill was my closest friend - we shared many interests, as he was also an engineer/artist who loved to travel. Some of my best memories are the trips I took with Bill and Nancy to local art galleries as well as museums all over the world. Bill was truly a great and caring friend.

Bill will always be remembered as a gentle spirit -- kind and very positive. i knew him from Vanguard Artists, and we worked together several years ago planning a holiday party that was very special and enjoyed by all. He will be truly missed.

Bill was a well-respected and true technical guru at Electric Boat and as a Technical Chief his name appeared on many documents related to the design of S5W ships- submarines with fifth generation Westinghouse nuclear reactors. I recall a discussion with Bill as he was planning retirement- buying a heavy-duty Ford pickup and RV, selling his house and traveling around the U.S. Happy to hear that he continued to enjoy traveling during his retirement years.

It felt like I finally returned to Sun City West after I saw Bill at an easel in the art room. He was always friendly and had a smile on his face. He painted beautifully.

Bill was one of the kindest and most sensitive to the feelings of others that I ever met. He was loved and will be greatly missed by those of us at Vangaurd Artists

Bill was one of the nicest people that I have ever known. He was always ready to help wherever it was needed. He took a scrambled mess of books and organized them into one of the finest art libraries around. He was an excellent artist and a very good friend and will be deeply missed.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Bill undertook many responsibilities -- he did the portrait class for eleven years; commissioned the stands for the Art Show; ran the library and put out the newsletter. All with affability, competence and something that is in short supply in our Art Club -- organization.

Bill was a joy to be around. Quiet and calm, and always the voice of reason. He was, above all, helpful and kind. Anytime someone needed something, be it information, or help in hanging, or information about the SWAC Library, Bill helped cheerfully and calmly. He did not seek out praise or acknowledgement. He was the kind of man who always greeted you with a genuine smile that made me happy to see him. Bill will be missed but his spirit will always be part of the Sun City West Art Club and Vanguard Artists.
My deepest condolences to his family. God speed, dear Bill!

Bill was a joy to know and work with in the art club. Even as his illness increased his pain and disability, he was always ready with a smile and word of encouragement to fellow artists. When he came into the art club he'd say he was having "a good day". Bill was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.
