Nanette Bosted Obituary

NANETTE J. (JONES)
BOSTED, 63

CRYSTAL RIVER - "Nan," as she was known to family and friends everywhere, left us on January 17, 2010, after a brief but intense battle against a rare cancer.
Born in New York City, Nan was the daughter of Harry C. and Mildred C. Jaecker, Jr. She spent her life into high school at Sands Point, Long Island. Moving with her family to Franklin Lakes, NJ, she graduated from Ramapo Regional High School in Franklin Lakes. She attended and graduated in 1968 from Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA with degrees in Sociology and Art. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook her senior year. She married and started raising her family in Buffalo, NY. She relocated shortly thereafter to Lakeland, FL, in 1970, where she lived for 25 years. While in Lakeland she owned The Christmas Shoppe, a specialty store. She also ran a folk art studio, with her partner, where they designed, fabricated and painted artwork for local and prominent businesses. In 1994 she permanently moved to Crystal River, after having owned a weekend home on Homosassa River since 1974.
Nan was an accomplished designer, artist and businesswoman. She created and operated CARGO HOLD, a shop that specialized in nautical antiques, reproductions, home decor, Christmas and unique gifts in Crystal River. She and partner, John Alvenus, founded the original OAR HOUSE restaurant and lounge in 1998. A strong believer of giving back to the community, she was an avid supporter of CASA of Citrus County, holding a fund-raising event, her famous Halloween Gala, almost annually. She was also a major supporter of SERTOMA, the speech and hearing clinic, among other charitable works.
In addition to her husband, Ken Bosted, architect, she leaves behind a brother, John Jaecker and family in Fullerton, CA; daughter, "Suzy" Lang and her husband Terry and sons Rob and Drew Mallory of Vienna, GA; son, Jason Coats Jones, Operations Specialist Chief Petty Officer-USN and wife, Jennifer and Nan's granddaughter Marissa of Virginia Beach, VA; and friends worldwide.
There will be a gathering of remembrance on Saturday, January 22, 2010, at Strickland's Funeral Home, Route 19, Crystal River (352-795-2678; wwwstricklandfuneralhome.com) from 2:00PM to 4:00 PM. All are welcome to bring remembrances of Nan. However in lieu of flowers, Nan requested Donations to be made to CASA (Inverness), Hospice of Citrus County, which so gratefully helped Nan and her family and friends through her final ordeal, or the American Cancer Society or the educational entity of choice.
Nan will be dearly and deeply missed.

My sympathy to all. Nan made Ken so happy, and it was just too short.

Nan and I went to Ramapo together and we were next door neighbors. Saw her at our 40th class reunion. Sorry we lost touch over the years.
Her family has my deepest sympathies.
