FROSTPROOF - Mr. Michael Byrd of Frostproof passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 in Frostproof due to a work related accident.
He was born June 15, 1987 in Lake Wales and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a field foreman for Richard McKenzie & Sons and enjoyed fishing, family times, NASCAR and the Miami Dolphins.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Wayne Byrd, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Shelley Byrd; sons, Michael Gadge Byrd and Jacob Logan Byrd both of Frostproof; daughter, Makayla Marie Byrd of Richland, NC and another daughter on the way, Makenzie Michelle Byrd; mother, Betty Jones of Avon Park; sister, Mindy Marie Byrd of Frostproof; brother, James Kyle Jones of Avon Park; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Sandra Byrd of Frostproof; maternal grandparents, Mal and Betty Lightsey of Frostproof; aunt and uncle, Wanda and William Hollis of Frostproof; cousin, Mandy Hollis; and a beloved mentor, Tracy Kent.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. The funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Frostproof.

When I heard the terrible news, I started remembering the crazy, funny things that made Michael who he was. He had a good personality with a great heart. The family and friends are in my prayers.

Michael was more than my cousin he was my brother and bestfriend. Growing up we argued, played together, told secrets.. As adults I guess you could say we did the same. Michael was always a kid at heart and so full of life. My life will never be the same without him.. I will cherish the time I spent with him, and will love and miss him always. But I know one day I'll see him again.

If I needed help he would help me or anyone for that matter he was a good guy i never had a problem with him he was one of my best friends its sad his life had to end so soon u never think your close friends will go so soon when i heard it i was shocked what made it worse was that i had not saw him in 2 years i went back to frostproof 2 visit my family then on the day i was leaveing i saw him for 5 minutes and told him he looked like he was doin good then a couple weeks later this happened i feel terrible 4 his mom and wife an kids i wish his family the best

Michael was a really great friend to me when we were in school together! There wasn't a day at the lunch table that went by that he wasn't making us laugh! You all know how I feel about Michael but what you don't know is that I learned more about how to be caring and giving from this very young soul than I have from anyone in my life.
