Charles McMahan Obituary

Charles Monroe McMahan, 84, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013.

A native of Wilmore, he was the son of the late Walter Calvin and Margaret Catherine Featherston McMahan.

He was the president of Brandywine Explosives and Supply Inc. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, a member of American Legion Post No. 113 in Elizabethtown, The Catholic Church of the Annunciation in Paris, Ky., Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors, Kentucky Crushed Stone Association, Kentuckians for Better Transportation, International Society of Explosive Engineers, DYNO Explosives Distributor Association and Marine Corps Heritage Foundation-Semper Fidelis Society and was a Kentucky Colonel. He attended St. James Elementary School and Elizabethtown Catholic High School and graduated from Elizabethtown High School and was a member of the 1946 SCKC football champions.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Monroe McMahan Jr.; one brother; and five sisters.

He is survived by six children, Patricia Kay (Greg) Lackey of Sante Fe, Texas, Nan Katherine (Bob) Sellin and Thomas Monroe (Tina) McMahan, all of Lexington, Julie Ann Malear of Ridgecrest, Calif., Dana Susan (David) Breitenstein of Louisville and Elizabeth Jill Parrish Howell of Lexington; his former wife and mother of all seven children, Barbara Parrish McMahan; his current wife, Elizabeth McMahan; 12 grandchildren, Beth Ann Lackey of Broomfield, Colo., Master Sgt. Joshua Thomas Lackey of Miamitownship, Ohio, Morgan Fay McMahan, Charles Ross McMahan and Lauren Parrish DiMartino, all of Lexington, Matthew Charles Taylor, Michelle Ann Taylor and Thomas Taylor, all of Ridgecrest, Bryce Evan Howell of Lexington and Rachel Breitenstein, Skylar Suzanne Breitenstein and Keeley Brynn Breitenstein, all of Louisville; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert McMahan of Elizabethtown; one sister, Susie of Louisville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Catholic Church of the Annunciation in Paris by the Rev. Danny Fister. Burial follows at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. James Cemetery in Elizabethtown.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., in Paris. A rosary service is at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Woodrow Fryman, James Thacker, Robin Lilly, Gregg Thornton, Joshua Lackey and Bryce Howell.

Honorary pallbearers are Thomas S. Cooper, William S. Cooper, Arthur E. Walker Jr., Thomas S. Hinkle, Henry L. Hinkle, Thomas Brannock and Gordon Wilson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Church of Annunciation, 1007 Main St., Paris, KY 40361.
