Fred Cheatwood Obituary

Heflin - Fred Cheatwood, 83, died Friday, July 29, 2016, at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, August 1, 2016, at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Robinson, the Rev. Brent Thompson, and the Rev. Chuck Jaggers officiating. Burial will follow in Heflin Memorial Garden. Visitation will be today, July 31, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include, wife, Bobbie Nell Cheatwood, Heflin; son, Gary (Renee) Cheatwood, Heflin; sister, Lucille Williams, Barnesville, Ga.; grandchildren, Baillie LeAnn Gaines, Garrett Wayne Cheatwood, Kallie Alexa Cheatwood, Grayham Cade Cheatwood. Pallbearers will be Tommy Clark, Robert Clark, Garrett Cheatwood, Grayham Cheatwood, Connor Ewing, Huelett Thompson, David Thompson, Roy Thompson, Larry Thompson, Larry Brown, Merville Cheatwood, Ronald Tumlin, Wayne Tumlin, Jeff Tumlin, Chris Sears, and Michael Sears. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Benefield, Scott Holland, Roy Gene Cheatwood, Delmar Hanners, employees, and former employees of Cheatwood's Texaco. Fred is a native of Cleburne County and resident of Heflin most of his life and member of East Heflin Baptist Church. Fred owned and operated Cheatwood Texaco since 1959 when he started the business with his brother, Marlin Cheatwood. Mr. Cheatwood was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Kilgore; and siblings, Ruby Skinner, Bernice Thompson, Loyd Cheatwood, Marlin Cheatwood, Ruth Tumlin and Lowell Cheatwood.
