Julia Truscott Obituary

Julia M. “Judy” Truscott died peacefully in her home on October 28 at the age of 81. She was one of nine children born in Jermyn, PA. She is survived by two siblings, Robert Speicher and Florence States. She is also survived by her three children: Neil Truscott (Leslie); William Ray Truscott, Jr. (Cindy); and Karen Rainer (Paul); as well as four grandchildren: Ian, Graham, Hannah and Taylor. She is preceded in death by her former husband, William Truscott M.D. Judy graduated from Jermyn High School in 1953. Upon graduation, Judy enrolled in St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Carbondale, PA and graduated in 1956. Her early nursing career was devoted to pediatrics and she worked at Saint Christopher’s hospital in Philadelphia. She raised her three children and returned to nursing as a geriatric nurse. She retired from Dock Terrace Nursing Home as director of nurses in 1994. She continued part time at Dock Meadows until 2007. While she was raising her children, Judy also volunteered at the North Penn School District as a mentor, as well as a participant in “Art goes to School”. Judy’s favorite hobby was cooking. In addition to cooking, Judy had an extensive collection of giraffes, figurines and paintings. Standing 5 foot one in her stocking feet, Judy quoted that she liked giraffes “because they were tall”. Judy was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and sister. Her generosity, graciousness, and genuine love for her family and friends were her most endearing traits; it is for these qualities that she will be most fondly remembered. A celebration of Judy’s life will be held Saturday, November 12 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse at Hidden Springs Community, 355 Kings Pond Lane, Souderton, PA 18964. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to please make a donation to a local chapter of Make-A-Wish at www.wish.org

My deepest condolences to the family. I have nothing but good memories of my Gran. and even tho i didn't have much time with her, she will forever and always have a special spot in my heart. If it wasn't for her, i never would have received an A+ on my 7th grade social studies report, which was titled, "A Day In The Life Of A Giraffe" May she rest in peace. I love you, Gran.
