Mary Stratechuk

MARY STRATECHUK December 29, 1925 July 28, 2011 Mary Stratechuk formally of Yorkton passed away peacefully with her daughter and in the hearts of family members at her side on July 28 from congestive heart failure. She is survived by her children: Bernice (Wayne) Rees of Winnipeg, Charlotte (Stuart) Hampton of Saskatoon, and Melvin (Sharon) Stratechuk of Edmonton; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also, brothers: Morris (Winnie) Zatwarnicki of Weyakwin, Bob (Myrtle) Zatwarnicki of Yorkton, Sk, Wilfred (Mia) Zatwarnicki of Sheho, Sk; sister Anne Shumay of Richmond, BC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband John in 2009; her parents and two brothers that died in infancy. Mary was raised on a farm south of Sheho, Sk. and was the eldest of five. In the time, she attended many social events and had many suitors. But at one Sheho dance, John on military leave wooed her and they married August 4, 1944. They farmed south of Sheho until 1964 before moving to Yorkton. In 2003, they moved to Saskatoon. Mary was a stay at home mom as family was important to her. Enjoying life and not being afraid to try new things was her motto. Shopping, lunch outings, and doing silly things with her friends were a must. She loved the great outdoors and enjoyed many fishing/camping trips. Her flower gardens and birds became her extended family; further reflecting her kind spirit and nurturing soul. She was also a talented artist and her oil paintings can be found across Canada. Many thanks to everyone at Preston Extendicare Home where mom moved in on July 19 and ensured her last days were comfortable. To Dr. Barry Dick, to the wonderful Homecare aids for the last two months, and to everyone at McClure Place who were so concerned for her well being. A Memorial Service will be held on August 18 at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery in Sheho, Sk. at 11:00 am. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cemetery Fund, Sheho, Sk. S0A 3T0 or Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group, Saskatoon Field House, 2020 College Drive, Saskatoon, Sk. S7N 2W4. Arrangements entrusted to MARTENS WARMAN FUNERAL HOME (934-4888).
