1941 - 2021
James Edward Hastings, age 79, passed away on January 28, 2021 at the Venice Regional Bayfront Health Center, Venice, FL. Jim was a retired Columbus Firefighter. 1959 Graduate of West High School, where he excelled in football and track. Veteran United States Air Force. Member Westgate Lodge, #623, F&AM. Member Moose Lodge #11. He was an avid golfer, softball player, bowler, an Ohio State football and basketball fan and he went on to become a longtime high school football official. Preceded in death by parents David and Bernita Hastings, wife Beverley Hastings, son Michael Hastings, stepson Gary Weethee, sisters Karen Fellenstein and Vicki Ammon. Survived by children, Jim Hastings and Lori Jones; granddaughter, Jordan Outhwaite; sisters, Kathy (Geno) Warner and Judy (Dan) Isel; mother of his children, Patricia Byrne; brother-in-law, Mike Fellenstein; numerous other family and friends. The public may call for visitation at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME, 2693 W. Broad St., on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 10AM-12Noon. The majority, but not all of the immediate family will not be present at the public viewing. There will be a service for immediate family only at 12:30PM Saturday, February 13, 2021. Pastor Art Minnehan officiating. Interment Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Jim's name.

Jim and Bev were our neighbors in Ohio. Both were very kind to my family. Jim was always quick to help me with advice on home maintenance. Bev was always pleasant with yard tips.
Jim always wanted to move to Florida. We are glad he was able to enjoy Florida while he could.
We are very sorry to hear about this loss. Our condolences to the family.

I met Jim at Venice Regional. He told me a little about his life both in Ohio and in Venice. He was a very kind man. I am so very sorry for the loss of your family member. May he rest eternally
