Walter Halstead Obituary

Walter "Walt" B. Halstead, 78, passed away after a long illness on November 22, 2007. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Halstead Marsh, and his infant son, Bruce Bernard Halstead. Walt, born in Schenectady, NY was a professional photographer and attended Union College. He received his Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees from both the Professional Photographers of America and Professional Photographers of Canada. His photographs were published in, and on the covers of, numerous national and international publications including Time, Fortune, Forbes, Business Week, Science Journal, International Science and Technology, Industrial Research, International Photo Technik, The Professional Photographer and many others. Walt's 37 year career with GE in Schenectady was interrupted by his Navy service during the Korean Conflict. He retired as the Manager of the Graphics Operation at the GE Corporate Research & Development Center. In 1988, Walt and his wife, Joan, retired to Jacksonville, FL to escape the upstate New York winters. Walt enjoyed numerous lifelong activities including golf, curling, and boating. His love for curling, a winter sport, inspired him to orchestrate the building of shuffleboard courts in Mandarin, FL. Walt is survived by his wife, Joan, of 58 years, his son Howard B. Halstead (Melissa Engler), his daughter Judith Ann Halstead (Jonathan Feinberg) and two grandsons, David and Christopher Chudzicki. A memorial service will be held at 11am, Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 12236 Mandarin Road, Mandarin, FL 32223 with Father John Palarine officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour or FreshMinistries, 1131 North Laura Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206.
