Barbara Brenner Obituary

Barbara E. Brenner

Barbara E. Brenner, age 79, passed away peacefully, in the early morning of September 15, 2019, of a rare blood disorder, at the U of M Hospital, in Ann Arbor, MI. She was born Barbara E. Fink on August 28, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, the first child of Harry and Sylvia Fink. Barbara attended Old Orchard Elementary School during her early years and finished her education at DeVilbiss High Scool and graduated in 1958 . Barbara continued her studies in the fine arts at Toledo University, Miami University-Coral Cables and the San Francisco Art Institute, where she was an assistant to two art professors. It was here that she earned a BFA and MFA in painting. After graduating, she was asked to be a representative for the Ching Dynasty Art Collection, in which she organized and conducted lectures, throughout the United States. Barbara's personal paintings were subject to many solo and groups exhibitions. She won first prize at an MFA exhibition that was held at the art institute. Other paintings of hers have been purchased by corporate and private collectors.

Survivors include sisters, Suzan Bach (Bob) of Hawaii, Janet Fink of Toledo; niece, Chelsea (Max); nephew, Jeremy Bach (Georginia); great nieces, Sara, Julia and Naomi Bach, newly born Marlowe Manesh; cousins, Shelly (Dan) Schaefer, Lynne Gaines (Ron); good friend, Stephen Loomis and her ex husband, Irv Brenner. Barbara had a special love for her fur-baby niece, Hazel. Barbara was preceded in death by both her parents.

The family will be having a private memorial service honoring Barbara's request. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Toledo Museum of Art, an Autism charity, an animal shelter or a charity of the donors choice.

I remember walking home with Barbara from Old Orchard in the 6th grade (1951) along Cheltenham (sp?) to Barbara's house. She had a one year old baby sister. I thought that was so cool as I was the youngest of 3 girls and didn't have a baby sister to play with! We miss you Barbara. love Sharon Klein

I have just learned now of Barbara's passing. I feel honored to have known her and been her friend. I have two paintings of hers that will continually provide such wonderful memories of our friendship. Barbara was an amazing person. I am so saddened she is no longer with us. Nancy Reynolds

Barbara was one of my very favorite people and I'm very sad to see her pass. I enjoyed the interactions between her and Janet. I also loved to hear her stories when she would share her extraordinary life adventures with us. I will miss her. Janet we will always be here for you if you need us. I wish we could have met the sister from Hawaii it would have been fun to see the three of you together.

I am so sorry to learn of Barbara's passing. We were part of a group of Toledo friends who started out together when we were 5 yrs old at the Collingwood Temple and remained friends until the end of high school. I reunited with Barbara in the 70's/80's when she had moved back to Toledo and visited her at her apartments in Old Orchard and Sylvania. I got to see her art studio some of her amazing paintings. The last time we were together was in 2015 when I was in Toledo for a few days and Diane Bernstein had a luncheon for those of us around from the old group. I will miss Barbara's friendship, her velvety voice, her warmth and sense of fun. God bless.
