Claudia D. Zaharia

Claudia D. (Dunwitty) Zaharia, 74, of Penn Township, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at her home in the presence of her loving husband, Jack. She was born May 3, 1943, in Pittsburgh to the late Regina (Wilson) Mueller and Walter Dunwitty, who was killed in World War II, and was the stepdaughter of the late Charles Mueller. She taught Spanish for the Hempfield School District and later became one of the principals at the high school. She enjoyed coaching the Hempfield girls softball team, pitching for the women's softball team at Liberty Christian Church, riding her horse and bowling. Claudia loved traveling to many European countries. She is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Kristy Murphy and her husband Brian; son, Ethan Zaharia; and grandchildren, Owen, Alana and Eva Murphy. The family would like to thank the nurses and EMTs of Penn Township Ambulance Service and good friend Addie Gebrosky.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 805 Pennsylvania Ave. Parting prayers will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills.
