I was honored to get to know Ben while working at Spoon River Home Health Care.I also a Swede, he thought I was sweet. I always loved visiting with him about his past. Ben was very sweet and so friendly, such a caring man.

I do not know Mr. Juiliusson but was most pleasantly surprised to read that he served in Yokohama and Beppu. Not certain anyone in Peoria even knows about Beppu, a Japan famous hot springs resort. My father also was in Beppu at the U.S. Army base Camp Chickamaugu under Colonel (at that time) William C. Westmoreland's command. A Methodist minister Isaac Shaver (papers on Duke University Library website) was the superintendent of a Beppu orphanage started by Japanese Christians and aided by the Harrisonburg Virginia Methodist Church. The Beppu orphanage (still active) was visited with presents during the holidays by the G.Is from this Army base.

Perhaps, based on today's Mr. Juliusson legacy, Mr. Juliusson was one of these compassionate U.S. soldiers.

With Respectful Condolence.
