Marie Irene (Judge) Brihan, 82, beloved wife of Robert J. Brihan of South Windsor, died peacefully with her family at her side, Saturday (February 2, 2013) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born in Cleveland, OH on May 2, 1930, daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Glass) Judge she had lived in South Windsor for 34 years. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Irene was a member of the Historical Society of South Windsor and she enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, quilting, baking and reading. She also volunteered at area nursing homes. In addition to her husband, Bob she leaves five children, Karen Schrooten and her husband Paul of Anchorage, AK, Robert Brihan and his wife Ann of Superior, WI, James Brihan and his wife, Jane of Nashua, NH, Mary Beth Brihan of Manchester and Jack Brihan and his wife Patty of South Windsor; a sister, Jeanne Oliger and her husband Ray of Cleveland, OH; eight grandchildren, Robert and Emily Schrooten, Megan and Eric Mensinger, Kathryn, Patrick, Jennifer and Sarah Brihan; two great grandchildren, Maddie and Paley Schrooten; a sister-in-law, Carol Judge of Cleveland, OH and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother James Judge, a grandchild, Amanda Mensinger and a niece Connie Judge. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will be private. Her family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash, St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
