Samuel J. Gerdano New Hartford Samuel J. Gerdano, 89, of Imperial Drive in New Hartford, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 with his loving family and caregivers at his side. Born on March 29, 1923 in Frankfort to Joseph and Rose Giordano, he graduated from Frankfort high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. A member of America's greatest generation, he served in the European theatre in the Normandy and northern France campaigns. He was on the 2007 final trip of Oneida County veterans to visit the National Memorial built in their honor in Washington, D.C. He owned and operated a service station on North Genesee Street for more than 50 years, providing quality auto repairs and snow plowing service for hundreds of devoted customers. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and had a passion for vegetable and flower gardening. He is survived by his son Samuel Jr. and daughter-in-law Michelle of Fairfax, Virginia, son-in-law Harley Lanning of Marcy, brother Joseph Giordano and wife Virginia of Merritt Island, Florida, four grandchildren, Marisa Louise, Samuel III and Natalie Rose Gerdano of Fairfax, and Megan Elizabeth Lanning, formerly of Marcy and now of Centreville, Virginia, also niece Judith Rosato of Utica, a sister-in-law Helen Graniero of Utica and a sister Catherine Crane of Staten Island. He was predeceased by Louise, his loving wife of 42 years, who also passed away on this date in 1992, and their daughter Sharon Gerdano Lanning of Marcy. He was also predeceased by his sister Carol Caruso and her husband Anthony of Frankfort and friend Rosemary Evans of Uitca. The family wishes to thank Sam's many wonderful friends and neighbors in New Harford, especially Pat Vidoni, John Biernat and Shirley Kroeger, and Laura Lonergan of Whitesboro, also Ann Marie and Vic Jakubowski of Whitesboro. They also especially thank Complete Companion Care for their loving care, especially Joan, Brenda and Nancy Edick, RN of St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Hospice & Palliative Care of New Hartford. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home 13 Oxford Rd. in New Hartford with the Rev. Joseph Zareski officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Carr Cemetery in Marcy. Family and friends are Invited to call on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please consider Complete Companion Care, 5214 State Route 233, Westmoreland, NY 13490. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
