F. Patricia Mayo TROY – F. Patricia (Purcell) Mayo died unexpectedly in her home on November 8, 2014. Born in Troy on November 27, 1933, Patricia was the dear daughter and only child of the late Joseph and Frances Dunn Purcell. She attended grammar school at the former St. Peter’s Academy and was a member of the graduating class of 1951 from Catholic Central High School in Troy. Patricia furthered her education at The College of St. Rose from where she received a bachelor’s degree in economics. She was married on April 27, 1957 in Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy to her beloved husband, William J. Mayo, Jr. and together they enjoyed more than 45 years of marriage before his passing in 2002. Patricia was employed in the offices of the Peerless Company in Troy and later by General Electric in Schenectady where she worked for several years before moving to South Bend, Indiana where her husband was obtaining his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Notre Dame. While there, Patricia was employed by Notre Dame’s athletic department. Upon returning to the Capital District, Patricia worked for the family business, Mayo’s Grocery, on Garner Street in Cohoes. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy and was a member of the Cohoes Columbiettes. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Mayo, Jr; the much loved mother of Colleen Mayo of Cohoes, William J. Mayo, III of Waterford and Kathleen Mayo of Cohoes; dear mother-in-law of W. Lee Welch of Cohoes; cherished grandmother of Kendra Aubin and Tyler Charles and the life-long and best friend of Gerry Zotto and Jean “Murph” Caldwell. Patricia’s funeral will be held from the Doran Funeral Home, 9 South Lake Avenue, Troy on Thursday at 9 AM and at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue Troy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Randall P. Patterson, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waterford. Friends are invited and may call at the Doran Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 until 7 PM.
