Dear Mrs. Thuente:
May I express to you and your family
my sorrow over the loss of your husband,

Colleen, I first met Jim in high school and was always dazzled by his laser blue eyes. I would see him at least once a year to make a purchase at Moellers, never a large one, but, you never would have known that from the way I was treated by Jim. I was fortunate to have known him. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family

Dear Colleen and family,

We have been meaning to send a note ever since we found out in the last year about Jim's illness. I was born and raised in St. Paul and return often to see my family, and now live in Bethesda, MD. In 1993, we purchased our engagement/wedding rings from Jim when he was with Moeller Jeweler in Highland. My ring needed to be sized and Jim kindly delivered my adjusted ring to my parents' home in Highland the day they were leaving to come to Bethesda for our wedding--rather than risk mailing the rings to us. In the following years after we were married, we would stop and see him for ring cleanings and other purchases, nearly every time we would visit. He would always extend his big calm smile and we truly enjoyed talking and chuckling with him. My husband and I are Catholic and Jim shared with us his interest in one day becoming a deacon. When we heard he was sick last year, it struck us hard and we have been thinking of him and your family. Please know we are praying for you now knowing what you (and Jim) must have gone through. I know he is with God and I do look forward to seeing him again one day. It is hard to imagine his eyes could be more radiant, but I bet they are glowing with Heavenly radiance now. May he rest in Eternal peace until we see him again. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Colleen and Family,
I was sorry to hear about Jim. I didn't know him very well, even though we were cousins. I remember visiting with him at Sister Aquinas's funeral and when he was at the farm with the family.

I played hockey with Jim at Nativity, knew him a bit via Moeller's, played softball against his Nativity team, (I play for Highland Catholic, now Lumen Christi) and last ran into him several years ago in Nisswa.

Jim's shining eyes & ready smile never changed. His funeral yesterday was beautiful and no doubt made him very proud.

Godspeed Jim and his family.

He always brightened any room with his infectious smile and big heart. He was a great father, husband and friend. There are no amount of words to justify how much he is missed.

Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers and as we all know Jim, he is smiling down on his loving family and friends.

For a guy that dabbled in diamonds and jewels - we lost a "gem" of a man... Rarely was there a day without a smile on his face or a cigar in his hand. The lines were long last night at the wake - a testiment to the people he touched... and the family he loved...

March 24, 2011

Colleen, Thuente and Walsh families,

I realize no words can make sense out of the loss you feel right now, but you can take some comfort in the fact that Jim touched so many lives while he was here with us!

I had to share a couple of the ways he touched mine.

He helped me buy my wife, Mary's, wedding ring 27 years ago. Jim had a certain calm about him that made me, then a 20 year old nervous kid, feel comfortable with the purchase I was making. I will never forget his words, "Steve, it is not about the size(signature grin), it is all about the 3 C's, cut, color, and clarity!"

I will also remember all the times up at the lake with Jim. I loved seeing him walking down the lake front or coming around a corner with his signature cigar in his mouth.

Jim had that infectious grin that could brighten anyone's day, and he did mine many, many times. I would venture to say it did for so many people that he came in contact with.

Remember the great times with him, and take comfort in the fact that he was a great man that influenced & touched many lives.

Take care, and we all know where he is right now having a big Stogie!

All our condolences, The Kosel Family
