Frank BROWN Obituary

Master sculptor and arts activist Frank J. Brown died on April 9, 2020. Born and raised in southern Illinois in 1956, Brown earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His sculptural work is included in the permanent collections of many institutions, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Southern Illinois University and the University of Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City, with major sculptural commissions in Florida, Wisconsin and elsewhere. Brown spent his career working in Lowertown St. Paul, where he established the Lowertown Artists Association. Brown was endlessly quotable, but was perhaps best-known for his regular greeting, 'Another day, another blessing.'" He continued sculpting until four days before he passed. He is survived by his children Franklin J. Brown II and Teanna Brown, his siblings Ethel Brown and Rosemary West, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Thanks again Frank for the time we spent in 2013 trying to keep your ship sculpture from the heat. Miss your smiles.

Frank was a gifted, unique and visionary on many levels. His gift of Art, in combination with a great sense of humor and true aim for equity for all, made him a a man beyond ordinary in our changing times. His progressive insights, and ability to share human progress and challengesvia his sculptures, made this world a better place. His selfless gift of sharing his time and talent with youth and others is commendable. This world will miss, you, Frank....as will all of your Madison friends. Blessed be, dear friend.

Frank was a great artist who's works and message will live on. He was a great guy too, I can easily hear him say "Another day, another blessing" as he always did. Wish I would have stayed more in touch after we met 22 years ago. Glad we crossed paths and I'll miss talking with him. RIP my friend.
