Kenneth Joe Hurt

Kenneth Hurt, 75, of Marion, passed away at 7:13 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at his home.

Kenneth was born on September 30, 1950, in Gibson County, Indiana to Albert Lloyd and Imogene Lucille (Robinson) Hurt. He married the love of his life, Deborah Phillips, on June 18, 1971, at the Marion Aldersgate Church. They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. She survives.

He was a 1968 graduate of Marion High School. He then attended the Aviation program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for three years. He went on to work for the United Parcel Service (UPS) for 27 years driving a feeder truck.

Kenneth was a longtime member of the Marion Aldersgate Church and the Southern Illinois Metal Detecting Club. He was a very active member of the church band. Kenneth had the most giving heart, never met a stranger and was everybody's friend. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing with his grandsons and playing the guitar. He was known for spoiling his grandchildren with ice cream on every visit. His two cats, Patches and Target, brought him lots of joy.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Phillips) Hurt of Marion; two children, Jennifer (Dave) Levin of O'Fallon, Illinois, David (Betheny) Hurt of Thompsonville; seven grandchildren, Jamie Hurt, Jake Levin, Conner Levin, Zach Levin, Abbygayle Hurt, Braxton Hurt, Lauren Hurt; three sister-in-laws, Carol Caplinger of Johnston City, Anita (Jon) Binns of Marion, Rhonda Hurt of Washougal, Washington and many nieces and nephews along with a large extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Imogene Hurt; brother, Lloyd Lee Hurt; Michael Payne ("other brother"); brother-in-law, Wayne Caplinger.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Marion Aldersgate Church with Rev. Dr. Sarah Wanck, Rev. Gabe Wanck and Rev. Jim Slone officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Aldersgate Church. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church on the day of the service.
