URBANA – Stephen Lee Comer, 69, of Urbana passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, in his residence. He was born August 14, 1945, to Albert Lee Comer and Carola Sophia (Randall) Comer.
He was a Graham High School Alumni. He married his wife Sharon (Fultz) on September 10, 1966. He retired from the City of Urbana Street Department and worked part time for Mike Ropp Excavating during his retirement years. Steve enjoyed farming with his son-in-law, Paul, and antique tractor pulling with his son-in-law, John. He was a past member of the NTPA and very active in truck and tractor pulling, which included a modified 440 Cockshutt in the' 70s. He could always be found on his 50 Cockshutt at the end of the track when his grandson pulled trucks and at The Matt Calland Memorial Truck Pulls. He was an avid fan of Westerns, particularly of John Wayne. His faithful canine companion, Hank, could always be found at his side.
Steve is survived by his wife; his daughters, Kelly Jo (John) Warman and Joyce Lynn (Paul) Calland, both of Urbana; grandchildren, Macy L. Calland, Grace E. Warman; sister, Linda (Comer) Tyler; step-mother, Roberta Cook Comer; step-sisters, Sharon (Cook) Ware, Brenda Cook, Linda (Cook) Fullerton; step-brothers, Robert Cook, Lawrence Cook; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Matthew Paul Calland.
A memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Vernon Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to The Matt Calland Memorial Scholarship Fund, The Champaign County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 38125, Urbana, OH 43078, or Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Road, Springfield, OH 45504. Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.
