Kurt Wyman Obituary

Kurt Brian Wyman
Franklin Springs
Kurt Brian Wyman, passionate husband of Lauren, wonderful father of Alexander and Adyson, entered eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 24 on Tuesday, June 7th, 2011. Kurt was born on February 19th, 1987, in New Hartford, New York. His loving parents, Brian and Lynnette (Boersma) Wyman, raised him with his sister, Angela, in Whitesboro and later West Winfield. Growing up, Kurt loved soccer, playing cards with his family, paintball, target shooting and construction, and spending time at his grandparents' camp in Old Forge. After graduating from Maranatha Christian Academy in New Hartford, NY, Kurt enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves while attending Mohawk Valley Community College. While in the Marines, Kurt served in Iraq, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and was awarded Iraqi Campaign Medal (with one bronze service star), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He served with 2nd Battalion 25th Marines Fox Company. Kurt began his career as a deputy sheriff with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office in 2007. He was honored as 2010 Rookie of the Year, two time recipient of the Grand Cordon Medal. It was in 2005 that Kurt met the love of his life Lauren Territt. They were married in August 2008 just several days before Kurt deployed to Iraq. As a couple, they shared a passion for their Lord, working with teens in a youth ministry at their church, working on their home, traveling, and their love for their family. The depth of the love that they shared for each other was evident to those around them. Kurt will be remembered for his faith in Jesus Christ, who he is with now, his love for his family and friends, and his desire to help anyone around him. He always had an ear to listen and a heart of compassion that led him to care and serve. His family will remember him as a caring and sensitive son, protective son-in-law, best friend and little brother. Kurt is survived by his loving wife, Lauren (Territt) Wyman, son, Alexander Paul (16 months), and daughter, Adyson Jynnette (newborn); his parents, Brian and Lynnette (Boersma) Wyman; sister, Angela (Wyman) Denton and brother-in-law, Zachary Denton; in-laws, Thomas and Judy (Maassen) Territt; grandparents, Don and Carol Wyman, James and Nancy Boersma, Gail L. Strehle and Janie M. Maassen; and great-grandmother, Leone Boersma. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Paul H. Maassen and Joyce G. Coffee, and great-grandmother, Marjorie Wyman. The family would like to thank our family, as well as our church family at Crosspoint Church (formerly Clinton Road Baptist Church), for their love and support. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord. Funeral services will be held at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Monday, June 13th, at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Sam Macri, Pastor Kyle Kaurin, Pastor Bobby Allen and Allen Christman. Kurt will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made by making a check or money order out to the OCPBA, and write "Family or Children" in the memo area. Contributions and condolences can be mailed to the OCPBA, PO Box 376, Westmoreland, N.Y. 13490. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, New Hartford. To The Wyman Family, My most deepest Sympathy to all of you. I did not know Kurt but by the end of his memorial service I felt as though I knew him all my life. When something this tragic happens we all ask why. Even though none of us knows the answer to that, God does. I am sure he has a great plan for Kurt. Even though he is gone he will be your guardian angel forever and he will always be with you. I know he wore his uniform with pride and love for all human beings. May God bless each of you and I know your faith will be always strong. My prayers to each of you. Kurts memory will always live.

The Wyman family: A very respectful, understanding young sherrif came to my home last month. My husband and I talked about life in general for about an hour. I joked with him about hanging around so long. I said, must be a slow day huh. He laughed and said you have a very nice home. It is so peacful here. When he got ready to leave I told him to be safe out there, he turned around smiled, said thank you and said oh I have to, I have a family and new baby on the way. God calls that a Divine appointment. He had a glow about him and could tell he was filled with the spirit of god. I am so sorry for your loss. I know for sure that he is with our lord and someday you will see him again. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. cheryl

Looking back at my early years at MCA, I distinctly remember looking up to Kurt. Kurt was a great example and was everything I wanted to be. I always wanted to be a law enforcement officer and also serve in the military. Kurt had those same dreams and was blessed to realize them at an early age, accomplishing more at 24 years of age than many people do in a lifetime. I remember how impressed I was when I saw Kurt for the first time in his full dress uniform in the foyer of BBC. That image sticks with me even today as I remember him. I hope to be able to achieve the same level of success as he did and can only hope to be as much a friend to others as he was to everyone. Having just contracted with the Army, my goal is to live up to the same standards that Kurt had for himself and others. I know if I am able to do that, the rest will come easy for me. It seems only like yesterday he was patiently teaching me how to run the soundboard, or sitting next to me in youth group. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy and I wish to express my deepest condolences to the entire Wyman family and Lauren. I will not forget his sacrifice, but equally, the way in which he lived his life.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have two cousins that work for the sheriffs office there as well. I just want to say to Kurts mom and dad that you are a true testament of what a christain should be, and hope that all can be this way some day. I shared your interview with my friends here in WV, and they were so moved by this. You are great parents whom brought their son up to walk in the light of Jesus. For the both of you, Lauren and their two children, I pray that Jesus keeps his arms firmly wrapped around you to help you heal on the terrible tragedy. My friends as well aas the entire River Cities Baptist church has you r entire family in their prayers. God Bless you all, and to his children, I am sure they will hear alot of wonderful stories about their dad, from all of you. Each day that you see these children grow, it will remind you of the the love he had for you Laauren, and for your children. I feel honored to have gotten to know you and your family, and hope that you will keep us updated on you and your children as they grow up. Love and my deepest sympathy to all of you!

My sincerest condolences to the entire Wyman family. I have always thought this poem comforting and fitting for a law enforcement hero.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

the word "HERO" needs no translation in the English dictionary. The name of Kurt Wyman is the only definition needed for this ultimate sacrifice of bravery he bestowed upon our community every day he put on his uniform to protect and serve. May his wife and children find comfort in the soft summer breezes and the bright stars at night, for it will be Kurt watching over them and saying "you will be ok, I am standing right next to you"

To Lauren & the Wyman Family,
Kurt was one of the rare ones and a true hero. I'm glad I got to spend 17 years as his friend and classmate. I'll never forget all my memories I've of him. Kurt always treated everyone with love, kindness and respect. In turn there wasn't a person who didn't like him and isn't proud to had him as a friend. May God bless & carry you in this hard time.
In Christ,
Katrina
