The children of Pete Traversa would like to announce the passing of their father on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at the age of 81. After a lengthy illness, our dad joined our mother Mary Clare, our sister Rose Marie and his parents in Heaven.
Pete was born on March 12, 1928 in Pennsylvania. He moved to Oxnard in 1950, stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base as a Seabee. At that time, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Clare Thompson. After his discharge from the Navy, he went to work at Linoleum Studios as a floor installer until he opened Pete Traversa and Son's in the early 1980's.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. He and our mother were one of the original families of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, serving as an usher as well as one of the original members of the Pastoral Advisory Council. His favorite pastime was collecting toy trains and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Duffey; his sons, Pete, John (Sandra) and Joe; his daughters, Paula, Patty (Mark), Kitty, and Susan (Eric), twenty-two grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at Santa Clara Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to Roze Room Hospice for their kindness and care towards our father. Arrangements are under the direction of Reardon's Mortuary.

Dear Traversa Family,
I’m so sorry to hear of Pete's passing, I can only imagine the sadness in your hearts for his loss. I always enjoyed talking business with him, but I had to smile, because I knew the conversation would always get around to Pete asking me when was I going to sell him my trains? May he rest in God’s arms.

Dear Traversa Family,
Growing up, some of my best memories include, "Mr. Traversa" attending my football games at Santa Clara High and partaking in the fantastic meals at the "Traversa's". Above all, are the fond memories I hold of the sense of family unity your dad brought.
I will always remember "Mr. Traversa"!
My wife and I want to give you our condolences. We know it is a sad time for all of you but remember, your dad is now rejoicing with our Lord.
