Former Washington, DC resident for over forty years, HERBERT DUDLEY ANGEL of Greensboro, North Carolina died there Tuesday, December 21, 2005 peacefully at the age of 65 in his residence. Herbie, as he was known to his friends, was born in Gilford County, North Carolina, January 12, 1940, to Jonathan Wirt and Thelma Cummings Angel. He worked in Georgetown, Washington, DC for forty years in the restaurant industry and Well Springs Retirement Community Center in Greensboro, NC for five years before retiring. He was an asset for every establishment for which he worked. Herbie had traveled the globe, he spoke at least five languages which were self taught, and had a photographic memory. Herbie was a wealth of knowledge especially pertaining to history. When Herbie would tell stories about his travels or history everyone was captivated to the finish. He was very unique and a one of a kind person. Surviving him are his nieces, Jeanette Webb and husband, Stacy of Greensboro, NC and Angela S. Butler and husband, Daniel of Rocky Mount, NC; great-nephews, Chance Webb and Caleb Butler. Herbie was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. There will be a wake to celebrate the life of Herbert Dudley Angel held at the Quarter Deck, 1200 Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, VA, Sunday, January 29, 2006 from 2 p.m. till 6 p.m. Come and listen to the stories to see why Herbie Angel was a one of a kind. Memorials may be made to The Children and Youth Guidance Fund, at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27455.

I will always have fond memories of my days on the avenue and late night discussion with Herbie, covering every topic from heads to tails. Herbie showed everyone great respect and always had sincereity in his dealings with his fellow workers, friends and the public in general. See you on the other side.
