Dr. JOSEPH P. SWIFT (Age 82)  
On Thursday, March 10, 2016.   Beloved husband of Mary C. Swift of Chevy Chase, MD; loving father of Teresa Musgrave (Randy) of Severna Park, MD, Cathy Patterson (Lowell) of Bethesda, MD and Peggy White (Brian) of Chicago, IL; dear grandfather of Julie Musgrave, Ryan Musgrave, Lowell Patterson, James Patterson, Maggie Patterson and Stephen Patterson.  Joe graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1955 and Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1959. Joe was Chief Resident at DC General Hospital and then went into private practice as an endocrinologist in Chevy Chase, MD. He taught as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University and served on the Medical School Admissions Committee. Joe was also the Chief of the Endocrinology Service at Sibley Memorial Hospital. An esteemed physician who devoted his life to caring for others, Joe took annual trips to Lourdes, France as a member of the Knights of Malta and to Milot, Haiti to volunteer at the Hospital Sacre Coeur. After his retirement, he volunteered at the Mercy Clinic in Gaithersburg, MD and was the recipient of the "Outstanding Physician Award" for his service. The John Carroll Society presented him with the Pro-Bono Health Care Award. Joe''s superior intellect was surpassed by his compassion and congeniality. He strived to replace the world''s inequalities with faith, kindness, and generosity. Joe was deeply loved by his family, friends, and patients. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 14, 12 Noon at Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20816. The visitation will precede at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by DeVOL.
