I cannot believe that two years have passed since Mike was [jysically with us. It is unbelievable to me! Mike (together with Linda), was such a wonderful presence in our daily lives. It made me look forward to whatever he might say next. He was the most caring person and everyone loved him. Life was more than dentistry to him he always saw the big picture. God Bless him and his family.

Dr Kildea was a wonderful dentist and person. He was my dentist for over 15 -20 years. He provided such good advice and care. I Am so, so sorry to hear of his passing.

Chris Parkin

June 2, 2021

I first visited Dr. Patrick Michael Kildea Jr., D.D.S., about 35 years ago, when I started work at Georgetown University and upon the advice of a colleague and Georgetown alumnus, Charlie Leonhardt. It was Charlie who texted me tonight about Dr. Kildea's passing. Over the years, he and I referred to Dr. Kildea as "your dentist", as in, "I'm going to see your dentist, tomorrow. I'll say 'hello' for you." Well, now we all say farewell and bid him rest in peace, our dentist.
He was my family's dentist, too. My relationship with him is, for now, older than my children. It outlasted my marriage. It weathered many changes in my life and his practice. As has been said in other remarks, he was a fine man, quick, perceptive, generous, joyful, direct, inquisitive, knowledgeable, trustworthy. And, really, the list of his positive attributes is much longer than my meager capacity to set down, here. One example, when GU changed dental insurance providers, Dr. Kildea changed, too, putting it this way, "Anything for Georgetown".
This anecdote sticks in memory. I was gradually, firmly but gently, led into the habit of flossing my teeth. In order to help me, Dr. Kildea frequently expounded upon the benefits of flossing, the relationship between a healthy mouth and a healthy body, and so forth. At the end of one such exposition, he paused, leaned toward me, and as if divulging a confidence, looked at me directly and said, "Chris, we just want to disturb the bacteria." And with that one phrase he unlocked my ability to care for myself. His humorous remark transformed the arduous task of observing a dental hygiene regimen into an opportunity to inconvenience and discomfort a host of bacteria who, I now realized, were the freeloaders of my mouth, squatting on my teeth and gums, refusing to leave.
Such was his gift to me, and I see that he shared his many gifts with so many people. We were all so lucky to have known him.

We loved Dr. Kildea, and just received word of his passing. He was kind, funny, and our kids loved going to him. He aways said, "It doesn't get much better than this" when talking about their teeth. High praise--they always felt good leaving his office. He is gone too soon, and we will miss him so much. Our thoughts and prayers to your family. Dr. Kildea won't ever be forgotten in our family. Dear Linda,
We just found out that Dr. Kildea passed away, and are heart-broken for you and also for us for the loss of a remarkable man. He was so kind, so considerate, so wise. We moved to University of Minnesota in August 2020, and have not been in tough with too many people in Washington DC. His passing is truly shocking. We have so many wonderful memories of Dr. Kildea. Not only did he take care of the teeth of our entire family, but he was a dear friend to Robert and me. He and you have always been so supportive of our academic careers at Georgetown University, and we have enjoyed both of your company in numerous social occasions. And we all love Ireland. We wish you strength during this difficult time and send our love to you. Leena and Robert Clarke

Our family was fortunate to have Dr. Kildea as our dentist during the years when we lived in Bethesda. He was a great person, a true gentleman, and a kind, caring doctor to us.

When our nephew from Hungary developed a painful dental problem while visiting us, Dr. Kildea welcomed him as a patient and quickly resolved the issue.

During one of my visits, Dr. Kildea told me how to apply for Irish citizenship and, thanks to him, I now have dual citizenship and an E.U. passport.

I am very sorry to hear of his passing, and send deep condolences to his family and friends.

Our world is a poorer place without Dr. Kildea here, but I know God is holding him in the palm of His hand.

Dr. Kildea was one of a kind! So down-to-earth and interested in others. Me, my mom, Mary Kay, and my dad, Kevin Kadow were patients of his for as long as I can remember. He made house visits to my Dad in his last few years and treated him with such kindness!!! So easy to laugh and relate to others. He was truly a gift to humanity and will be sorely missed. Love to his family and May his large life and memories be a comfort during this difficult time.

The Nunez’s offer Mrs. Kildea and Joe and family our sincerest condolences. He was such a great guy. Our connection through Mater Dei and Georgetown spanned many years. 40 or so. He was a classmate of my sisters deceased husband at Georgetown Dental. My mother and sister were also patients. He was just simply a great guy. Unpretentious to a fault. I saw him, while visiting Congressional, on the putting green. I said, “Doc, I didn’t know you belonged to Congressional?” He said, “I’m a member, but I don’t belong here.” So funny! I’ve kept that in my mind for all of these years and use it often!
I will miss him terribly! I loved going to his office and talking golf and sports and my work. He was always so interested in me and my family. God bless you Doc!

Dr Kildea was the dentist for both my mother Santa and my handicapped sister Ellen. My mother raved about him. But perhaps the most important thing was how he treated my sister--with great care and kindness.

Dear Mrs. Kildea and family,
My wife, son, and I are so sad to hear of Dr. Kildea's passing away. We were his patients for about 15 years and thought he was both an outstanding dentist and a wonderful man. In fact, he was the best dentist we ever had. He was a skilled dental artist, did not do anything that was not necessary, and taught us the value of great dental hygiene.
We miss him very much! God bless you and may light perpetual shine upon him in the heavenly kingdom.

Dr. Kildea (Mike) was/is a remarkable man in so very many ways. Truly there is no one that I ever met that had his wonderful attributes and abilities. He was compassionate, friendly, and quick with a smile. He felt everyone he met had an important contribution to make, no matter who they were or what they did. He was a caring and considerate professional, very resourceful, and as a result, had many close friends. He had many interests and hobbies and was quick with a comical remark or joke, and adored his family. He and his wife, Linda, had the closest relationship in a 50-year marriage that I had ever seen, his love for her is endless as it is for their son, Joe, and his daughter-in-law Lauren, and their lovely family. He loved his five-year-old granddaughter, Mary. We, in the office, laughed together many times as he would share Mary's latest achievements or a story about something funny she had said. He enjoyed going home just to have lunch with her after school. I know he also adores Anna Clare, the newest addition to the family, and that he is watching over everyone with Emily Grace by his side in heaven.

Mike always said that our patients were his friends and neighbors. He was always thinking of them and how his actions and decisions in the dental practice might affect their lives. He was often able to offer a piece of helpful advice or a kind suggestion that might help someone in some way. He was never too busy to be concerned about a person. He wanted to get to know everyone and hear their point of view about many issues of the day.

We laughed together many times in the office at the stories he would tell us of his time growing up, some were pre-dental school stories, or as a student at Georgetown Dental School. Life was a great adventure for him. He often spoke of the many books and poems he remembered (and could quote), as well as his love of Ireland, Bing Crosby songs, and the movie "The Quiet Man". We learned he liked Maureen O'Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, and John Wayne. He even admired the way Cary Grant ordered a "Gibson drink" in the movie "North by Northwest" and could go on and on about it!

May God bless him, his family, friends, and patients as we all grieve his loss together. I was so proud to know, work with and befriend Dr. Kildea. May our memories of him bring us comfort as we all have our own recollections of this wonderful man who was a true friend to so many. I, for one, and without a doubt. know he went straight to heaven. Enjoy that Guinness, Mike!!
