April 1, 2010

I am so sad and sorry to hear about Lisa. I remember her dearly, her big smile and energy. I so clearly can recall how she struggled to keep that brightness when it was difficult. She was full of so much passion and love. My heart breaks for your loss.

Dear Lori, David, Allison and Jennifer,

Our whole family mourns with you at your loss, and we hold you and your extended family in the Light. We feel like our families grew up together, meeting you and Lisa when Allison and Julia were four, sharing countless sideline conversations at basketball and soccer games, listening to Lisa sing with choral groups, and seeing her wonderful smile . Annie recalls playing with Lisa from those days and being her classmate throughout the years, and what a sweet girl she always was and what a sweet young woman she became. Jim and Gail stand with you in the unimaginable loss of a daughter. much love, Jim, Gail, Annie and Julia Kohanek

Dear Lori, David, Allison & Jennifer,
I had met your lovely sweet daughter Lisa at the Duke, Diet & Fitness Center a couple of years back. She was so enthusiastic about her stay there and about everything she was learning. She seemed to have made many friends at the Center and on the few occasions I saw her, she was always smiling. I will always remember her smile because it made me smile too. Am so sorry for your loss, but please know that your daughter/sister had a positive effect on those of us who didn't know her very well. She was very sweet and kind.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Vise,
I was so sorry to hear about
Lisa. As one of her care takers I want you to know how much I enjoyed her. She had a gentle way about her. I always looked foward to seeing each day what new headband she would be wearing when I came into work. She had a flare for style. I feel very grateful to have know her. I hope you and your loved ones can find comfort in knowing that we all loved her. Sincerely,

Dear Lori, David, Allison, and Jenn,
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you have some happy memories like I do, though. I keep thinking about all of the play dates I had with Lisa at your house in Lower School . I remember one time we played hide and go seek ALL over your house (inside and out). It was probably the best game of hide and seek I've ever played! I also remember how proud Lisa was when Lori and Jenn came to our class for Baby Watch when when she was in Third Grade. As we grew up and went on to Middle and Upper School, I was so grateful for her warm and smiling face in the tennis van on the way to away matches. With all the crazy girl stuff that goes on in Middle and Upper School, it was so nice to have such a grounded person with a great sense of humor like Lisa to talk to and cheer me on. Lisa was a wonderful person and I am so happy and lucky that I had the opportunity to know her and be her friend. My sincerest condolences.
Yours truly,

To the Vise Family,

I am so sorry to hear what happened. When I recall the time I spent at Sidwell, I always think of how Lisa was my first friend and the person who made me want to stay at the school. When I was a shy, new student, she made Sidwell a better place for me and for everyone, and I know she touched the lives of everyone she met. I will always remember Lisa for her kindness and consideration.

March 23, 2010

Lori, Allison, Jennifer, and David,

Lisa was indeed loved, and will be always, by her friends, teachers, and the rest of our school community. I will always remember her time at Sidwell and her kind, funny email messages written in a pink font. She was a truly unique person, and I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that so many people's days, including mine, were made better by her sweet and charming presence.

My thoughts are with each of you.

Dear David, Lori, Allison, and Jennifer,
The news of Lisa’s passing is devastating. So many good memories of our days at Sidwell penetrate the sadness for me. I see Lisa clearly on our Middle School basketball team around age 11: she is, despite her small stature, the feistiest on the team and probably in the league. I see her animated face—constantly engaged in the lives of those around her despite the difficult and intractable challenges she faced in her own life. I will miss her dearly and, though I won’t be able to be with you at the service tomorrow, your family and Lisa will be in my thoughts.

St. Luke's has a beautiful chapel, and today at 11.00am I will spend some time there. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Lori, David, Allison and Jennifer,

I was shocked and terribly saddened to hear about Lisa’s passing. I spent fourteen years of my life in school with Lisa—we were friends from Ms B.’s PK-K class all the way through high school graduation. I will always remember her as an exceptionally kind individual who never failed to lift the spirits of those around her. I’ll remember her bubbly demeanor, her insistence on humor, and her steadfast determination to treat everyone with respect. Lisa’s sincere warmth was made manifest in her friendships—you only needed to spend a few minutes with Lisa to realize that her presence naturally made you a kinder and a more thoughtful person. I can truly say that I am better for having grown up with her. I will keep Lisa and your family in my heart and in my prayers during this difficult time. I sincerely hope that wherever Lisa is, she is at peace.

There is little we can say other than we will remember Lisa fondly going forward. Our children loved her as a teacher at their after school program and I can tell you that she made all of the children smile. Lisa was our kids' choice for a babysitter. Lisa was one of the most kind, generous, and selfless people I knew. Although I only knew her well for a short time - freshman year - whenever I was with Lisa she had an infectious smile that emanated outward and touched everyone around her. She was always up for an adventure, always interested in making new friends--and she always brightened my day when I saw her. I am deeply saddened to know that that light will no longer be here physically, but I know that light will continue to shine and inspire others spiritually. I will carry that light forward, and I know the people that she touched at Vanderbilt, and Lesley, and in her ordinary day-to-day interactions will carry that ever-burning torch forward. I extend my heavy condolences to her family. Lisa, we will all miss you!

Dear David, Lori, Allison, and Jennifer,
I am so, so sorry to hear about Lisa. She was such a generous, gracious and loving classmate, neighbor, friend and human being. I will remember her kindness and sincerity as she reached out to my family and me when we moved to the neighborhood. I remember her as the star of every musical in our drama program as kids: she was charming, warm, a natural. I recall in particular a personal essay she read aloud in our 9th grade English class, a poetics about her favorite color, pink. I'll always remember her, somehow, as pink. Sophie Huber

Lori, David, Allison, and Jennifer,

I was devastated to hear the news of Lisa's passing. Lisa and I spent a lot of years together at Sidwell, and when I think of her, I remember the cheerful, bubbly, and considerate girl that contributed so much to my grade and my advisory. Although words in an online guestbook cannot properly convey my sadness, my thoughts and prayers are with your family. You are all in my heart.

Love,

Sani Barr
