SOPHIE MARIE MOWBRAY  
Sophie was born on February 7, 1922 and passed away in her sleep on August 30, 2013. She is preceded in death by her Son-In-Law George Manning of Alexandria, VA; and survived by her loving husband, of 71 years, Lurty (aka Jack). She also is survived by her daughters, Janice Menker of Diamondhead, MS. and Evelyn Manning of Alexandria, VA; her grandchildren Colonel G.Thomas Menker, Jr., USAF and wife Jennifer of Jacksonville, FLA; Stephen Patrick Mowbray Menker of Hamilton, OH; Shana Marie Higginbotham and her husband Andy of Woodbridge, VA, Jason Manning and his wife Regina of Waldorf, MD; her great grandchildren, Liza Marie Menker of Hamilton, OH, Tyler, Jeremy, and Amber Sophia Higginbotham of Woodbridge, VA, Gina Wilson of Lusby, MD, and David Warriner of Waldorf, MD. Sophie grew up on a farm in North Dakota, migrating to Washington DC after graduation from high school in 1941. She began a career with the Red Cross that spanned 40 years, retiring as Budget Analyst from the Department of Army. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 56 years. Although raised in the midwest, after moving to Washington and residing in Virginia, Sophie became the epitome of the Southern Lady. Her neighbors and friends remember her as a true Southern gem! In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 6510 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, Virginia, 22306. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, September the 8, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, 10 a.m. with a reception to follow. Both events will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6510 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, Virginia, 22307. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, Virginia at 1:30 p.m. A guest registry may be found at www.everlyfuneralhomes.com
