Clem Daniels (1937 - 2019,) AFL all-time leading rusher

Clem Daniels was a star running back for the Oakland Raiders of the AFL during the 1960s, helping the team win the 1967 AFL championship. He rushed for over 5,100 yards and is the AFL’s all-time leading rusher. Daniels played college football at Prairie View and spent his first season with the Houston Texans. He was traded to Oakland and starred there for 7 seasons, finishing his career with one season for the 49ers in 1968. The versatile Daniels had 30 career rushing touchdowns along with 24 receiving TDs and once ran for 200 yards in a game.

Wes Wilson (1937–2020), leading 1960s rock concert poster artist

Wes Wilson was a pioneering rock concert poster artist who created posters for leading 1960s San Francisco psychedelic rock bands including the Grateful Dead and the Jefferson Airplane. He created a recognizable concert poster style with a psychedelic font that made it appear as if the letters were moving. Based in San Francisco during the flower power movement, he designed posters for Bill Graham’s famous Fillmore and for many local bands such as the Quicksilver Messenger Service. Wilson designed the poster for the Beatles' final concert held at Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966.

Roosevelt Taylor (1937–2020), former Bears All-Pro safety

Roosevelt “Rosey” Taylor was a former Bears All-Pro safety who helped lead the Chicago Bears to the 1963 NFL championship title.   

Ned Beatty (1937–2021), actor known for “Deliverance,” “Superman”

Ned Beatty was a prolific character actor known for roles in films including “Deliverance,” “Network,” and “Superman.”

Sonny West (1937–2022), songwriter of Buddy Holly’s “Oh Boy!”  

Sonny West was a songwriter and musician who wrote the early rock classicsc2e2809cOh Boy!e2809d and e2809cRave On,e2809d which were hits for Buddy Holly.

Chuck Jackson (1937–2023), Any Day Now singer

Chuck Jackson was an R&B singer who had a 1962 hit with the song “Any Day Now.”

Marian Robinson (1937–2024), mother of First Lady Michelle Obama

Marian Robinson was the mother of former First Lady Michelle Obama and basketball executive Craig Robinson, instilling in both the importance of education. 

Nita Lowey (1937–2025), former U.S. representative from New York

Nita Lowey represented New York as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1989 to 2021.
