Rob Ford (1969 - 2016), former mayor of Toronto
Rob Ford, the Canadian politician who was re-elected to the Toronto City Council in landslides and later became the city’s mayor for four years, died Tuesday, according to CNN. He was 46. The cause of death was cancer. He was first diagnosed with a rare form of the disease in 2014. Ford served 10 years on the council, from 2000 until 2010, the year when he was elected mayor. He campaigned on behalf of the working class, vowing to reduce the size of city government. "Toronto's government has grown bloated and wasteful," he said in a campaign video. "It's time to stop the gravy train that provides luxuries and perks to politicians and rich contracts to their friends."

Scott Walker was a member of the pop group The Walker Brothers who found great fame in England in the 1960s. Born Noel Engel, Scott joined The Walker Brothers and took on the name Scott Walker. The group had moderate success in the states before moving to England where they became big stars, their version of “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore,” reaching number one in the UK. Walker moved on to a solo career where he was a pioneer of baroque pop and avant-garde music, influencing many including David Bowie, Brian Eno, and Johnny Marr. He was an enigmatic figure, rarely appearing in public or giving interviews.

Eric Weissberg (1939–2020), “Dueling Banjos” banjo player
Eric Weissberg played banjo on the hit song “Dueling Banjos,” the theme song for the movie “Deliverance.” The song was recorded by Weissberg and fellow musician Steve Mandell and became a No. 2 hit. Their version of “Dueling Banjos” was popularized in the 1973 movie “Deliverance,” starring Burt Reynolds. Weissberg was in the folk band the Tarriers in the 1960s and was a popular session player who recorded with Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, the Talking Heads, and many others. He remained a popular performer at various folk festivals.
