Erik Saltzgaber Obituary

ERIK SALTZGABER
LOS ANGELES, CA - Erik Saltzgaber passed away on June 10, 2008 in Los Angeles, CA.
Erik attended West Hill School and spent several years in Basel, Switzerland before returning to Ithaca and graduating from Ithaca High School in 1980.
After high school, Erik attended Cornell University and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society. He earned a B.S. in Photo and Cinema Studies from Ithaca College in 1984. Soon after college, Erik moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a writer, producer, and vice president for international sales with several production companies. He remained an avid hockey fan and player since his days playing for the champion Green Elks in Ithaca's Pee Wee hockey league right up until this year's Stanley Cup win by his beloved Detroit RedWings. Erik was known for his humor, his intelligence, his determination and his generosity. We will miss him always.

Erik was very proud of his medal for Crew in the Empire State Games. I was also amazed when he decided to take up bass drum to join the IHS Marching Band. He is missed.

My condolences to Erik's family and friends. While in high school, Erik learned another sport, rowing, and I remember him as a young teen full of fun, vitality and spirit, sometimes a little mischief, always a good heart.

There was a memorial gathering on June 23 at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. It was attended by Erik's closest friends from Cornell who had later followed him to LA after college. It was also attended by his friends and hockey teammates from the Monarchs and Barons. Everyone there commented that Erik had in some way made their lives better with his encouragement and support, and inspired them to accomplishments they wouldn't have had without him. One of his colleagues said that Erik could negotiate a complicated international contract, then turn around and write a gripping script, but his greatest talent was in connecting people to both each other and their own dreams. He was loved and respected by so many people, and I, his sister, am so proud of him.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
