Erton Hudson

Erton Donald Hudson, 83, of Ocklawaha, FL passed away April 26 peacefully at home after a battle with cancer. Erton was born in Wheelock, VT on August 8, 1941 to the late Melvin D. and Verla (Berry) Hudson. Erton grew up in Wheelock where he attended elementary school and graduated from Lyndon Institute in Lyndon, VT in 1959. At which time he worked with his father for the town of Wheelock and then went to work as a machinist for Vermont Tap and Die in Lyndonville, VT. In spring of 1969, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Surridge and they were married August 22, 1970. They lived and raised two sons in Wheelock until they moved to Ocklawaha, FL in July 1996. Erton worked for Kmart Distribution Center in Ocala, FL until he retired in 2006. While living in Vermont, Erton enjoyed hunting on Wheelock Mountain with his family and friends at their hunting camp. He was a member of TOPS in Florida where he would volunteer his time to help any way he could. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Surridge Hudson, his oldest son Kevin Hudson and wife, Leslie of Ocklawaha, FL, his youngest son Keith Hudson of Easthampton, MA; two grandchildren Kavena and Luke Hudson of Ocklawaha, FL; his sister Linda Hudson Trembley and brother Clinton Hudson both of Wheelock, VT and sister Brenda Hudson Davis of St. Johnsbury, VT; his favorite sister-in-law Diane Surridge of Ocklawaha, FL; his special nephew Chad Hudson of Wheelock, VT, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A celebration of his life will be held May 8, 2025 from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Weirsdale, FL. Also, a memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on July 20, 2025 at 2pm at his nephew Chad Hudson's home at 106 Hudson Drive in Wheelock, VT.
