Anna Culbreth Obituary

Truitt (Tru) Pressly Culbreth, born in Winston-Salem, NC on November 11th, 1975, died peacefully at her home in Hendersonville, NC on December 26th, 2024. She is survived by her beloved sons, Jennings Hudson Helms (Hudson) and Charles Lowry Helms (Charlie) of Charleston, SC, her Husband, Zachary (Zac), her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Jennings Pressly of Greenville, SC, her sisters, Catherine Pressly (Andy) of Davidson, NC and Elizabeth Stewart (Will) of Greenville, SC, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, one niece, three nephews, her best friend, Wayne Morgan, and her cherished four–legged, faithful companions, Sam, Caitie and Archer. Tru graduated from Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, SC in 1994, studied abroad at Lincoln College in Oxford, England in 1996 and graduated from the University of the South – Sewanee in 1998 with a BA in English. She received Honors recognition on the Comprehensive English Exam and was a member of The Order of the Gownsmen Academic Society and the Theta Kappa Phi Service Sorority. Tru was an athlete and a serious runner qualifying three times and participating twice in The Boston Marathon. She loved all things outdoors including swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. She was an artist whose favorite mediums included oil, acrylic and watercolors. In this last year she had begun creating with natural materials, resulting in beautiful ornaments, collages and shadowboxes. Tru was an avid reader and had studied herbal medicines and aromatherapy. She was a gardener who shared her produce and canning, along with fresh eggs from her chickens (especially Henrietta), happily with friends and neighbors. She was known for her beautiful, blue Siberian Irises that grew along her fence and freely offered clumps of them to admirers and passersby. Tru enjoyed volunteering and was a former member of The Junior League of Charleston and The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. Her passion for working with veterans led to her becoming Directing Manager of The Veterans Healing Farm, originally in Hendersonville, and then co-founding VETS – Veterans Engaging through Service, whose mission was to help engage veterans through Agri-therapy. Those wishing to honor Tru could do so by supporting America's VetDogs at 371 East Jerico Turnpike, Smithtown, NY 11787-2976 or www.vetdogs.org. John 16:33 – "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye shall find peace. In the world, you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
