Annique Wagner-Hiester Obituary

Annique Mireille Wagner-Hiester

Taken down, not by lack of spirit nor powerful will to live, but by a pancreatic cancer bigger than she, even with her indomitable zest, sweetness and joy. January 8, 2023. She was 34.

Annique was accomplished and engaged. In the Arts, she danced and performed; she played violin (with the Albuquerque Youth Symphony and Mad About Music). She did theatre, she sang. She loved her extended family and the music that was part of all holidays. They were there to immerse her in music in her final days.

Professionally, she began as receptionist in a psychology office (APP) and went on to become a psychotherapist in her own right with Healthy Families. In all settings, she was respected and loved by managers, colleagues and clients.

She thrived on adventure, travelled to many countries, lived in some, hiked and kayaked and went parasailing in others, and loved the food in all the places she visited.

She was deeply spiritual, found a home with Amma and welcomed the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. She was passionate about the rights of all marginalized communities- women, LGBTQIA+, people of color, immigrants.

She created, with her husband, Marc, the ceremony that they wanted and delighted in being wife and partner.

And, most important, in everything she did, she maintained focus on creating her own Voice, her uniqueness. Annique unfailingly manifested a self that would be kind, that would notice and speak to the beauty of the other, that would create an atmosphere in which after having been in her presence, you just feel better about yourself.

She leaves surrounded by all who loved her- her boss, colleagues, clients; her friends- dancing friends, musical friends, playmates; by her great friend, Dorian. By her family-extended and immediate. By her husband, Marc, husband for a year, passionate partner for eight. By his family. By Earl Grey, their cat. By her mother and father, Cindy and Richard, by her sisters, Autumn and Espoir, her brothers, Aaron and David, by her two nieces, Sadie and Layla.

She was carried off with music, with tenderness, in an atmosphere of love. Her suffering ends; her expansive freedom begins.

Annique does not leave without a celebration of her living. This will take place on March 11, 2023 1:00-4:00 in Budagher Hall at Bosque School- 4000 Bosque School Rd NW,

Albuquerque, NM. 87120.

I am sorry for all of our loss. Her family and her friends and those of us she helped in therapy. I am so grateful.for things that she taught me to help with life and I'm grateful for her for her listening ear and her friendship within our therapy sessions. I am deeply saddened by this loss. Rest in peace. I will also miss hearing Earl Grey in our sessions.

I have fond memories of walking with Cindy Wagner when she was pregnant with Annique. I also remember Annique when she was a toddler and later meeting her at an Ammachi retreat in Santa Fe. She was a beautiful, joyful and loving woman. My heart goes out to her family.

I cannot fathom the pain and sorrow of her close friends and family, knowing the immeasurable loss she's been in my weekly life. I came to share the deepest pain & violation in my life with her. I finally began healing & believing I might trust again. Her soul is radiant and will surely continue to flourish in the hereafter, with her new wings. I wish I could have told her just how much I cherished her.
