It is deeply saddening to learn of Bess's passing shortly after the celebration of her 100th birthday. Her beautiful obituary is a loving tribute as well as a reminder of the strong, positive impact that she and her family had on northeastern New Mexico. The daughter of a pioneer physician in Clayton, Bess married a neighbor Bob Isaacs whose family operated Isaacs Hardware, one of the state's oldest mercantiles that served the region by selling everything from baseball mitts to windmills. Bess and her family continued to operate this large, robust enterprise until this past year. As a friend and classmate of her late son Mac, it was a privilege to know Bess and her wonderful family. Her warm smile, community leadership and many kindnesses are forever remembered. The grace of her good works will be sustained through the many lives that she enriched through her civic, business and social activities.
