Don Powers Obituary

Don Powers

Don Powers, born 11/22/33, died 3/8/2018 while resting at his daughter's home in Rio Rancho Thursday night when his "candle light" went out. He left behind approximately 84 additional lights brightly burning: Terri Strawn, Kip Powers, Kevin Powers, Lisa Halpin, Kris Powers, Jodi Hughes, Donna Hoggan, Sandi Powers, Ronald Powers, and approximately 73 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born in Medford, Massachusetts, later moving to Southern California to raise his family. Don was an excellent provider, a self-employed entrepreneur, running various businesses successfully. He was highly intelligent, well read, strongly opinionated, self reliant, full of wisdom, morals and principles; he taught his children most of the values they all hold today. His memory, his honor, his life will be remembered through their love and their lights shining by the values he has shared and lessons he taught. He was a very hard working man who remained independent, a bit cantankerous at times but compassionate at the right moments too. He was very quick witted and had a great unique sense of humor that shined brightly to those close to him, even up to the end! He loved to go to the gun ranges to shoot his shotgun, competitively or for fun, with his many buddies that will also remember him as an extremely fun guy to be around. At one point he ranked 17th in the nation in his class. His integrity and character held true to his being until the very end, he fought the good fight. He will be missed by many, loved by all that knew him, celebrated for his zeal and honesty. He was not a "religious" man outwardly per se, and loathed hypocrisy. We believe he got to know Christ before passing, which is why his passing was peaceful, welcomed, and we all have peace. He is now enjoying a pain free new body welcomed by Christ, his parents and children who passed before him. Dad loved to travel and meet people, on his own terms. His Spirit is telling me "I must be traveling on now, 'cause there's too many places I've got to see." We will remember you Don Powers, you are now a free bird!
